How do you play ED and what do you want from it?

What I wanted: The game that David and the team described during Kickstarter. For the most part I've got that. The DDF stuff would have been nice, but eh.... Elite is a fine game regardless.

What I want going forward: What David and the team said would be coming back in Kickstarter. ;) (ie- space legs and atmo planets). My pie-in-the-sky desire is for more and better storytelling and missions, but honestly if I don't get that I'm still happy.

All in all I'm quite pleased with Elite. It's not perfect, but it's still extremely enjoyable. Hardly a week goes by where I don't log in for at least a bit. I do what I want and for as long as I want and if I'm bored I go play something else.

What are you? Some sort of "grownup"?

I don't play it because it is broken and shallow and broken.

I don't plan on flying my Anaconda when I get home tonight because it is unflyably broken. And ugly.

I hate all the broken and shallow freedom I have to brokenly go where I want and shallowly do what I brokenly want.

I also didn't heartily enjoy the shallow Asp Explorer or the broken Python that I could not be bothered to own. And don't even get me started on the broken ship launched shallow fighter or broken missions I get regularly engrossed in because, and this may surprise you to know, they are both broken and shallow and broken.

.. thrown into the mix.

ED pretty much gives me that.

I play the game by flying my spaceship in spaaaace. Mainly, because I like flying my spaceship in spaaaaace.

And playing around with the BGS is interesting too.

I play ED or any other game to get away from "normal" life.
A moment to live my own story the way I want it.
Fun is my first priority, when I don't have fun with a game then I stop playing it.
For some grinding to the max is fun for others fighting untill they're the best.
For me fun is having a choice of what I can do, versatility.

ED has a lot of different activities to choose from, bounty hunting, exploring, trading, buying and upgrading ships, etc.
Since about a year and a half I'm a member of a group, that expands my choice of things to do even further.

Sometimes I need a break because a lot of activities lack a certain depth to keep me interested, lots of activities to choose from but to shallow to last very long.
After doing a lot of activities over and over I get fatigued and fun is starting to degrade and fun is my main reason to play ED or any other game for that matter.

I just got back after a break that lasted about a month, quite refreshed and having fun again in ED.
What I do notice is that the periods I have fun, between the breaks, become shorter and shorter so I realy realy hope that "beyond" will create a lot more depth to the already existing activities.

ED is still my nr1 game though and I think it will remain that way for a long time to come.

Another Class of 84 here.
I play this game to generally chill myself out, hype myself up, then chill myself out again.

I don't rp.
I don't belong to any group.
I've never pledged to a powerplay.
A little PvP.
A little exploring.
Very little trading....
A lot of Cracked Industrial Firmware. A lot.

Not currently doing a lot in game... just kind of mooching.
And I've kind of frozen on this forum of late, not saying anything noteworthy, but watching and reading...

I let myself get a bit down about the way things are in a game I've really enjoyed over the last couple of years. A game that I've spent more time on than any other... (I'm not a fanatical gamer, by any means).

Whilst pondering this the other night, I went outside for a cigarette... and looked up.

And I guess that's what I want from this game...
"I can go to any of those little lights up there."
My Dad couldn't, but I can.

Really looking forward the the changes to come.
Hope they make things better for us all, however we all want to play.

I must be happy as things stand, however because, faulty Hotas permitting, I'm still playing.

As to "how" I play... very carefully.

Why do I play Elite? Because I enjoyed the 1984 version on a Commodore 64, back when tape-loading was still popular ;)

What did I expect from this game? Primarily a modern day graphics update and flight model of the original. The updated Star System and everything was basically icing on the cake, for me.

I mainly do a lot of Exploration, a bit of Bounty Hunting, and some hauling on occasion. I'm studying on passenger missions (space taxi) but unsure if it's something I'll get into "full time".

I would have been completely satisfied with "offline Single Player", as I didn't purchase this game to PvP, I've done a lot of it over the years and I'm bored to tears with PvP.

I love the game, although some of the updates that have been geared to "balance" everything in order to cater to the multipew masses has been frustrating, but hopefully FD will come to their senses and redirect a bit. After all, this isn't "EVE in cockpits", an SC clone, or anything else they might have been expecting... but rather a really good, decent upgrade from the original game with tons of "extras" added in.

I explore, mine, run missions, run passenger. Do the occasional Community Goal, explore storylines, do a bit of engineering, work on rank. Only Powerplay has failed really to hold my interest for long.

More planetary detail, please. I'd like to see atmospheric flight soon, and liquid on planet surfaces. More detail to mining is on my wishlist too, and that seem to be planned for Beyond, so happy potentially I will be.

Better crime-punishment system - that is slowly being rolled out.

More detail and consequences to missions. I don't care for being handheld through a rollercoaster ride as seem to be what passes for game play in most AAA titles these days. However, there must be some way to cascade consequences of mission results further on. The chained misions are a good first step.

Thargoid story: Still feels a bit scripted. Not sure I find the CG approach to be particularly good. I did have fun stealing black boxes and escape pods from under the noses of the goids. But the encounters were seldom very varied.

Less focus on multiplayer: I do like playing in Open, am not playing anywhere else. However, I don't care for content that has to have me group up to do it. I'd prefer an option that could allow me to hire wing men. I don't mind meeting players and interacting with them on my terms. But I don't use a mike and I don't really care to listen to others rant or drone on.

Otherwise it is turning towards the beginning of a hot summer here in New Zealand, so the game may be mothballed for a few months until weather and light changes to conditions better suited for gaming.

:D S

I play in Solo, as I have no wish to interact with others in-game.
I play Ironman, as resetting after ship/SRV destruction brings a fresh start and keeps the game interesting. Plus there's no sensible way to explain the rebuy.
I play with several self imposed rules, to increase the challenge and add some believability to some things.

I would like to see more focus on solo play with things such as NPC crew.

Born in 77 so firmly planted in the star wars generation. Grew up playing Elite on the commodore and BBC micro. I've always wanted to fly space ships and see the galaxy.

I get to do that in ED. I fly spaceships all over the place. I'm ex military so I like to combat aspect as well and I like fighting for a cause (PMF and BGS).

There are bugs and there thing than can be improved but after playing EVE for 13 years wishing it was elite I get ED and left EVE.
