How do you trigger your SCBs?

Decided to add a new shield cell banks yesterday to the one I already have since I needed a little more MJ to keep my shields in tough combats.

Went my merry way until I got into a few fight, trying to interdict a few logistic ships from Hudson. I noticed that I ran out of SCBs cells fairly quickly.

Upon my return trip, I set my SCBs to a fire group to monitor how many cells were remaining (I had been firing them using a button on my joystick). I then realized that when activating the trigger on my stick, both SCBs would fire. Damn! Not what I want, unless I'm missing something. I want to use the cells from one SCB and then switch to the other.

So, I set up additional fire groups but I'm not sure I like the setup. Of course, the first fire group primary is the weapons. My secondary was an advanced discovery scanner. But since it seems I have to put both SCBs on different fire groups, with the FSD, that's starting to be a bit messy to handle.

So, how do you effectively trigger your shield cell banks? Specially if you have multiple banks?

Thanks in advance!

I power them on 1 at a time as needed. I bound the B key to nom a shield potion. That way there's no need to flip through weapon groups to use them.

Powering only 1 bank at a time also leaves more power free for weapons or shield boosters.

Run mine in pairs, turning them off when the pair is depleted and turning on a fresh pair. Have them bound to a button on my hotas but also add them to a fire group on their own so I can cycle through quickly to them to check on remaining ammo for them.

Got double cells too. Most times one is deactivated in modules so I used one at a time, active the second one once the first is empty. In some occasions I have both active and use double cells.
Ship is a A-grade Python, 6A shield gen, 2x 5A cells, mostly PvE.

Some people make a macro for the SCB so, if you know you are going to use more than one(normally pvp), you just hit the macro and let it run, me personally I just key bind it, and count the number of uses, then power on/off the next bank when required.

But that means you have to access the module panel scrolls through the list and then flip the switch ON or OFF?

Look very carefully..I do it quick. Pause at 2 min 4 sec and look at my priorities as well as the fact i have 2 turned on and 4 turned off. I am purposely using 2 at a time but the concept is the same. You turn off the ones you don't want to use and when it is time to use them you turn them on. Because of the way I have my priorities set up the used banks automatically turn off.

Good luck

Thanks for that, just re-did my priorities so now I don't have to turn anything off but only on. Can't rep you again apparently but will do when I can :)

Nice fight! I saw you bring up the panel and quickly changed the power of your SCBs. I guess that before expecting a fight, you could set the panel 4 to the modules section so if you need to quickly turn something On or Off, it's already there when you bring the panel.

I also noticed that you were using fixed pulse laser. I know they inflict more damage than the gimbaled one but, not to be nitpicky, there were a few times where you were shooting and missing. Do you think the added damage compensates for those times when you miss? I'm only using gimbaled beam and pulse because I'm not that good yet and I have already a lot of things to keep me busy so I thought that using gimbaled would allow me to have more precision shots albeit causing less damage.

Oh, could you elaborate on the part where you say "Because of the way I have my priorities set up the used banks automatically turn off"?

Yes, I noticed I was missing at times but that is usually (not all the time but usually) because I am not focusing on my target but some other display input...i.e. my shields, his shields, other target, targeting subsystems. I prefer the fixed over gimballed because everyone loves running chaff. I love that it doesn't work against me.

My ship requires more power than I have to give it. The Interdictor, Fuel scoop must turn off when hardpoints deploy or the whole ship will shut down.. they are set to priority 5 so when hardpoints deploy they turn off. Cargo hatch is always turned off. The first 2 SCB's are set to prirority 4 and therefore stay on. When I turn on the next set, priority 3, I am once again asking for more power than the ship has to give so the SCB's on priority 4 turn off leaving me with enough power to power the priority 3 pair. Then the last pair are set to priority 2 and the same concept applies. Instead of turning off one set and turning on another, all I have to do is turn pairs on...the other automatically turn off.

Got it, very nice! +1 Rep!

Well, that's basically the reason why I go with gimbaled weapons. Maybe when I'm more experience, I'll switch some to fixed. But keeping my eyes on my shield, on my opponent's shield, checking my speed, what's the distance from my opponent, how is he moving, that's all stuff that keeps me busy and distract me from keeping him right in front of me.

Man, I wouldn't want to run into you! You must never lose your shields with that arrangement...

I use a VoiceAttack macro. When I say "Recharge", it fires an SCB and decrements a count. When the count is 0, it opens the Modules tab, switches off the current SCB, switches on the next SCB, and then fires the SCB. Makes it real simple to use.
