Try X + Right Bumper, you can also hold down the X, Y, A & B buttons to see the overlay UI to also see what's what.

Turning off FA can make a LOT of difference in combat. FA off, Pitch, and fire your maneuvering thrusters can erase a few seconds off of finding your target. I do that plenty of times in my Viper. Just remember to turn it back on...

Hold B (Classic Controls) RB will toggle on and off.
Turn it back on when you have an enemy in your sights or especially when docking.
