How do you usually listen to music when playing?

^ As the title asks.

I know some of you won't, but personally, I couldn't play the game without having some sort of music playing. I like to zone out and sit and play, being in my own little bubble.

Usually I'd have my speaker on, or later at night I'd just forgo my game sounds and put my wireless headset on and connect it up to my laptop or phone for Spotify. What do you use?

I have a 80$ turtle beach headset. REALLY nice, even the more expensive headsets have the same kind of sound output. Only difference is the sound input. Anyways I play Pandora on my Xbox in the background. That way I can hear the game sounds and music perfectly. Adjusting the volumes to get the mix I want plus my headset has a bass boost. Sounds incredible. I usually play system of a down, disturbed, godsmack etc. I do mostly trading missions in my asp explorer. So it's easy to zone out and not worry, unless I get interdicted. Then it's go time lol.

I more often than not just mute the ingame music but have everything else on, the music is good but probably a little different than i imagined or would have done myself so usually just put on some nice music which is usually a bit more rock inspired or more upbeat.

I'm a musician and actually use ED as a good soundboard just to see how my music appears in a game as i usually have very little source material to go on so ED is a good option for this. Other times i just listen to the ingame sounds which are of a rather impressive standard and creates a good experience, i use my own music player/routine rather than one of the well known players out there as they tend to 1) use a bit too much memory and 2) can cause some performance spikes.

Would be nice to have some form of ingame player though, doubt this will happen but i find ways round it but it's all good fun of course but nice to see what you all enjoy ingame.

Someone's finally made a background music player on the Xbone that'll access a NAS drive, so for 99p I'm finally back to (most of) the functionality that the 360 had I-don't-even-want-to-think-how-many years ago.

I use Pandora and more recently Groove. Both Xbox apps are great and can run active in the background without taking any screen real estate.

Music off, in game sounds on. Been that way since SWG, dont figure on turning it on any time soon.

Same here. Although I did snap The Making Of The Desolation of Smaug a couple of weeks ago; but that was five hours long and I didn't want to watch a video for that long without playing Elite :D

Normally I just have the game on through headphones, with only supercruise music disabled

I have a four-step system that usually works well for me, especially on long hauls:

1) Kill the in-game music
2) Run up Sling or YouTube on my smaller monitor
3) Settle into near-mindless jumping while devoting the majority of my attention to the other screen
4) Eventually regain full consciousness hours later with drool down my shirt, thousands of light years from where I began (sometimes even in the correct direction)

I just use Pandora on the XB1. I'm aware that there are better systems to use on the XB1 but, eh, can't be bothered atm. I'll get around to it eventually.

Currently listening to music such as this. It helps to think of it as music developed by culture within the game (in this case, Imperial). Just think of it as a song made by some sort of unknown artist on an Imperial world. It's a language I do not understand, sung in a style I have never heard, with a melody that is unfamiliar. When I think of it as a song rising from an Imperial world that I am fighting for, it helps give depth to both the game and the song.

I have speakers that connect via the headphone jack, with a splitter so the speakers can have two inputs, one to the tv for the game, and the other jack for phone or laptop and my Spotify playlists, usually my elite specific one, I actually have some of the elite music in the playlist along side some movie soundtracks and some music from mass effect, daft punk tracks from from TRON legacy, you get the picture lol

Anyway main plus point for me is it just sounds like in game music

I don't.

Why would I want to interfere with all the audio cues that the (really rather brilliant) sound designers have created for me?

Why listen to music ever then if it is going to interfere with all the audio cues in daily life? Why listen to music while driving or any other long task?

Turn off in-game music.
Launch my Study/Space playlist from the very same pc and switch to Elite.
Thats it.

And for that playlist I got stuff like... Solar Fields, Aes Dana or dunno, Ninja Tune. They got some perfect music for "spacing". Perhaps some smooth jazz too, sometimes.

Here, try some for yourself, listen this for a couple of minutes and you might get used to that chill stuff. Fits supergood into ED, especially used these music while I was exploring outside the bubble with headphones because exploring... well you know how it is.
