How does the DLC work?

Been a long time fan of ED and have owned the game since it came out years ago on Steam. I purchased the Horizons DLC when it came out and all has worked great.
Recently I dusted off the game and found that I can export the key from the Frontier site and redeem it in the Oculus Client to play in VR after another 20GB download.
I did this and the game runs freaking fantastic in VR.. been playing in free time whenever I can to get my character/ship built up a bit. MAN I LOVE THIS EXPERIENCE.

Now I want to add the new DLC Odyssey to the game... Do I just purchase on Steam again and it will automagically work in the game or do I need to do something else?
Keep in mind that my Frontier account is linked to Steam so I think I just buy it in Steam. I am 99.9% sure that is how it works but want to make sure.

I guess I am wondering if the DLC is linked to my Frontier account or would it be a Steam only thing?

I think it depends if you buy it from steam or frontier, but I'll let someone with a brain answer too!

If you started the game on steam at least a year ago it should use the Frontier Launcher (which sounds correct as you are able to get the Oculus Companion key - Oculus uses the Frontier Launcher)
You can buy on Frontier store or from steam, either of which should update your entitlement to Odyssey on both steam & Oculus. I've pre-ordered the 'alpha' so once it appears should be able to confirm my assumption.

I am curious if it somehow gets linked to the Frontier login... seems like it would at least centralize it.
I have the Horizons DLC and that seems to work fine linked from Steam.. launching in Oculus I get the Horizons in VR by default.
(BUT I did hear that ED now includes Horizons by default so my assumption could be wrong)

Makes sense. I did purchase on Steam and then tried to find it in Oculus not realizing it isn't available yet... Steam lacking info on "when" so I refunded.
I guess once we get a date on the Alpha access I will re-purchase in Steam and see if it shows up. Wish "Early 2021" had a better description.

Purchase it on Steam and when it's live you will have access to it
