How Far Out

Hi all. I am posting this into exploration even though it is more about mining because I have done a lot of exploration trying to find the closest system to civilization where I can mine without pirates. I think I have it now.
I will update this later with the System name after I have sold the Exploration data since it is a pretty good system with a never before mapped 100% metal land-able body with 1.3% TE, Alexandrite, V.O. Serenite, Monaztite, Rhodenterite, Granderite, Platinum.
It is 213 LY from Lemmy's Rock and 239 LY from Sun Wen Ho.
I have been to Lemmy's and it is not a place I would want to fly into with 202 tons of anything in a Python fitted for max range so it has barely enough power to boost into SC/HD which is why I don't want to have to worry about Pirates. I am in a ship that can neither run nor fight.
Never been to Sun Wen Ho so at the end of this mining run I am going to check it out.

YMMV

How far from Sol are you? I thought you needed to go 500 LY from Sol before the pirates stopped bothering you. 🤔

I have no idea how far I am from sol. Loading the game to see if I can find out. Ok. Only showing 445 LY from Sol.
Don't remember where but I read that it was some unknown distance from civilization. That is why I have been trying to identify a distance. Not sure but I somehow have the idea that there are parts of the bubble that are more than 500 Ly from Sol.

Sothis, the Pleiades and similar isolated places are technically "outside the Bubble". Sol is the centre-point from which "distance from civilization" is usually measured. The Bubble extends out to roughly 200-250 LY from Sol, for example.

I thought it was widely accepted the so-called bubble extends to about 1000LY around Sol, which is roughly the distance you will stop seeing any NPCs or signs of civilization. At least that what it used to be. It may be lower now, but I had NPC bounty hunter follow me far beyond 500Ly from Sol once.

Wow. My last voyage I ran into an NPC at 2,500 LY from Sol (Dec 2019). It wasn't an interdiction, but a ground encounter while cruising from one geo site to the next so not sure if that counts. After buzzing him once he took off and fortunately the Ghost is armed and well shielded. Interdiction wise I agree that about the furthest out I've been jumped in hyper-space is approx 500 LY.

Well. I am successfully mining pirate free where I am right now. A bit irritated that I am in an Alaxanderite hotspot only finding VO.

Well. If the line is at or about 500ly, then I have never seen an NPC beyond that and I have made several trips out past 1000ly and a couple past 2000 ly.

This is just me, so YMMV, but I tend to think of the first 250 ly as being inside the bubble, and the next 250 ly as being the "suburbs". The next 500ly are the rural outskirts. 1000+ lightyears away is intirely outside. ;) :D
