How FD can fend off a hypothetical goon takeover (or even a real one)

The protections are still missing. There are a lot of behavioral sanctions planned, but so far the Pilots Federation has no teeth. Ganking clean commanders needs to sting. My solution would be to handle it like insurance payments. A fine based on the value of the ship you fly, like the insurance costs. Even a 2.5% penalty would really sting. If you're flying a four million Viper build, ganking a clean commander would cost 100,000 cr.

I'm a goon. The goons formed a private group so they can all play together. As many have said, with so few players in an instance there isn't any reason to worry about massive egrief. However if you are killed by a porky ham fisted fedora wearer contact shoehash in game and I will fly on your wing until he's dead here, or irl from arterial stenosis.

Of course I fly an adder worth over 300k in parts alone. To me that's like tricking out a datsun.

I like he's pointedly ignoring me, Kermit the Goon, while saying Goons have no empathy.

I still wanna be his friend though, because golly, this cycle of Goon-hate has got to stop.
Look, no offence, but you are an actual Goon and you seem friendly, there has been a guy who has played with Goons who speaks highly of you and there is a guy who makes stuff up for *reasons* so I am going to believe him thank you and good day sir

'Goons' have been here for quite awhile, perhaps even as far back as the Kickstarter in varying numbers.

Elite though is so different, they are no different than any other group who might be trying to make a system flip, so why the goon hate? If they happen to have more numbers, well so be it.

To make Elite more Eve-like one thing that they may need to change is the instancing and mode switching (even without mode switching you're going to have people getting through the 32 max instance or because they're located somewhere else in the world and never match in the same instance). Even if Elite switched to a classic server model they would have to overcome lag caused from people connecting from different regions, which will be major ('twitch' based games suffer greatly from lag) and why for example you see flight sims having servers in various parts of the world and these games usually offer regional server shards. In other words, the North America server would be existing and working in a completely separate manner, although you could possibly share data between servers. Either way it seems like a major back-end undertaking, even without the controversy, and I just don't see it happening any time soon.

... you're going to believe the guy who makes up stuff for "reasons"? What?

The big effect; even with the 32 player limit (effectively 10 with network performance), is the 'Trade/Market' effect. Even going Solo, no player could escape this effect. So yes preparations should be made to limit this.

That is very true, especially if its against popular or other significant systems (ie Sol, Achenar) as Frontier are also telling a story within game and for instance Sol descending into anarchy (if even possible). I'm torn on this, I know how they can be, but the results and if Frontier follow it with further stories it could be interesting.

I agree. I also want to suggest that after playing for a few days I wouldn't have the client/server relation any other way. Allowing players the option to play solo without all the grief inherent in online play has been a life saver for me, and is the only reason I've put so many hours in. The nicest thing would be to encrypt saves and store them client-side so we could play even when the main server is down, but I understand this opens the game up to cheating.

Look.

Why are there so many
afraid of the Goonfleet?
Just why do they run and hide?

Goons can be friendly,
but also huge a******s
who are basically dead inside

But if you feel like you can come and take us
Bring it on! Try and see!

Someday we'll find it, the Elite-Goon Connection
The pubbies, the griefers, and me!

That's no Goon!

True - I am no goon. Never was - wasn't even allied to them whn I used to play Eve. However I hope for a strong goon presence in ED - they're always good for creative and emergent gameplay.

Just put that there because it fits the thread (older Eve players will know the reference).

If Goons really come en mass you can bet they heavily going after FD to change some major game features.

- drop instances or push up player limit so Goons can use their force in numbers
- allow player controlled space/outposts
- cut off Solo from Open so Open players cant avoid them
- make The Mittani Chairman of FD right next to DB ;-)

If FD doesnt bend over, Goons will be not more annoying then a pimple on your bum.

As a goon, I both endorse this thread, and will continue to reap the tears of people stupid enough to fly in unshielded ships in Anarchy systems. I love you all.

Maybe you can help me..., how do we "bubble" the stations here in E-D. ? Can't find it in the manual...

L.N. (E.G. Goon) :D

Given that this thread is still going, you have to admire the tenacity of their Keyboard Warrior Propaganda Department.
