I am still learning functions and now I am supposed to bind everything to the buttons and never see the buttons?
When you say 'buttons', are you talking about keyboard keys? Yeah, that will be difficult with VR. If you can touch type, it's not too bad for comms or typing in navigation searches, but it's probably not too good for quickly reaching and pressing keys. Function and cursor keys aren't too bad for feeling out.
As others have said, a HOTAS (joystick and throttle with lots of buttons) and Voice Attack (voice activation) are highly recommended. Those "buttons", if you put some serious thought about what button does what, are pretty easy to remember. And just being able to say commands for everything else means you rarely need to use the keyboard.
One thing about HOTAS bindings is that you can use the same buttons for several functions. For example, you can use one directional hat to navigate your information panels when they are active, or to select targets in combat. And they can do something else while driving the SRV. And they even have flight landing overrides to do even something else. It just takes some experience to figure it all out.
Tip: the joystick is for flying and firing weapons during combat. Don't put anything on the joystick that you will need to press at the same time you are maneuvering and firing weapons - like directional thrusters, flight assist, boost ... unless you are very dexterous with your remaining fingers (exception is a pinky button if you have one).
