How I found Arsenic - surface prospecting.

The context of this is I'm replenishing stocks for jumponium after using ~50 premium boosts traversing to the Outer Arm Vacuus [Explorers Bar & Grill].

Firstly how not to find Arsenic - I tried many Geological Signals on several different high As % worlds and didn't get any from a Geo signal. I believe there are already known statistical reasons in the way these finds are generated that pretty much preclude stuff like As from appearing at them in any of the Crystalline features. You'll get much rarer stuff but not As.

So surface prospecting.

I picked a HMC (32.6% metal) with 2.1% As and vowed not to leave until I'd found myself 10 pieces i.e. 30 units. In all it took me about 12 hrs of prospecting, zooming around on a pretty flat world.

Metallic Meterorites: around a 1:30 chance of finding a single piece of As.
Bronzite Chondrite: Absolute no chance. I found plenty of these and not a single one gave As.
Mesosiderite: 1:10
Outcrop: 1:10

I quickly maxed out in all the other "rarer" raw mats from there such as Cadmium, Tin and Ruthenium.

Of course this was only one world: Eowyg Aihm JW-E d11-1 B-3

I hope this helps!

I think it's a bug, I've been getting always the same mat from sources like Lava Spouts, Fumaroles, etc. Regardless of what I've been shooting: pisceous cobbles, needle crystals, crystalline fragments/clusters, always the same mat was spawning. One day/location it was suplhur, the other it was nickel. The only way of getting anything different was flyving a bit and shooting outcrops and stuff.

It is a pity that we we cannot trade engineering mats, say via a self supplied mats trader on our carriers.

As an out black carrier based miner the amounts of raws, Arsenic is a noticeable one that I leave floating in asteroid belts. it can be, but not always found in reasonable quantity's in Icy rings.

A short while ago I was in close contact with another CMDR and I would have if he had been on the same platform as me offered to let him fly behind me collecting my unwanted raws as I mined in a ring with a reasonable amount of Arsenic.

Zapping random 'roids with a mining laser? You don't need a refinery to get them?

Yes, it is possible, in both Icy and more commonly Rocky rings, of course you would have to manually collect them, no refinery required for mats, but don't forget that I am flying a mining ship, using prospector limpets increases yields of rocks.

Raw mats do vary with ring type and not all raws are available in rings, some are surface only mined.

Use this as a guide metals and minerals, it is not totally accurate, as I said above Arsenic is also found in some Icy rings.

Mining for raw's with just a single laser on an explorer type build is going to be slow and dangerous, spinning rocks can hurt - even kill you.
