How long are cargo persistent?

I shipped my FDL out to omega to have a play in the combat CG as I wanted a change. FdL has no cargo racks and I got 2 mugs I planned to take to Sag and BP....

So.... If I dump them just outside the station, will they still be there after I dock, swap ships, outfit, launch and go search?

I'm using a cobra as an alternative but it's mostly unengineered and I'm rubbish at combat.

You need the instance to be kept alive until you return, so it's best to have a friend or wing-mate stay next to it. Even better if they can scoop it up and hold it for you.
