This year is quite expensive on holidays.
We generally get 20-25 days a year plus the mandatory ones. In this case that's 25th, 26th of December and 1st January. But nearly everyone will take off at least 25th-1st and quite often offices close down completely for that time because there won't be enough staff to make sense opening them. That's basically 8 days, starting and ending mid-week. Various people will decide to extend that one way or another to take complete weeks off. This year it would be a pain to have to work two-day weeks either end of the holiday.but you would have to burn 7 days of annual leave to get both weeks off.
My favourite is when Christmas falls on a Saturday or Sunday. Then the mandatory holidays shift to the the subsequent week-days. You only need to use three days to come back on the 3rd or 4th. You get one complete week and the next Monday off
