How Long Have You Been In The Black?

My current ship of choice is the Asp explorer and having reached level 5 on the FSD upgrades now have a basic jump range of 44Ly - probably more if I remove my weaponry. Has anyone done any better? Am I correct in thinking the Anaconda is still the top for basic unmodified jump range? I am getting ready for another sustained exploration attempt and am wondering whether to buy an Anaconda or carry on using the Asp Explorer.

I strongly suggest you take an Anaconda for a short exploration spin before you commit too much time/effort/credits into outfitting an Anaconda - just to make sure you can mentally cope with its supercruise flight properties. Personally, I'd go crazy with its slow turn-rate, especially compared to the Asp Explorer.

Cheers for the advice Redfox. I have never flown an Anaconda, I assume from your comment it has all the manoeuvrability of a supertanker in a sea of glue?

And that puts it lightly (and is extremely accurate). I lasted 2 Kylies in an Anaconda before I lost my will to live. My AspX had 52.9 Ly range in an exploration build but now I'm flying a 58.6 Ly DBX and I am loving it every bit of the way: Aurora - Sappho II.

It is 3 months now, and it could have been 8 if i didnt dock at colonia for repairs and refit. Heading to BP, made 7,5 kly in those 3 months, found 27 elw and thats how i like it.

I think this tíme, it would be much longer until i dock again, we have MC here, and that is a really nice addition to the game for explorers.

That is actually a fantastic philosophical question to every human.

How long DID you belong to The Black?

All we know is that one day, we just looked up and found ourselves alive on a sphere in a system somewhere in this specific universe. We have no clue where we actually are in the infinity of space. We have no memory of how long we were in The Black. Maybe a short while.... maybe forever.

All we can say is: Of all the infinite universes in the infinity of space and time, this was the only universe and spot where we can exist as we are here and now.

We just adapted to the local Laws of Nature and went along with it. But somewhere in our depth, we remember... something we need to do. Something important. ( omg its coming back to us now... where the hell are we? We are lost on a small planet in nowhere .... )

Hahaha, thanks guys - I think I will stick with my Asp :)

To be fair, an Anaconda is an excellent ship to fly. That said, Redfox and the others are right about the Anaconda in that it is not an easy ship to command. Put very simply, the Anaconda takes time to love. The first few days that you fly an Anaconda, it's going to feel like steering a space cow. However, after taking time to get used to the Anaconda and how it handles, it'll be one of the best deep explorers you ever find.

To give an idea, my method of getting used to the Anaconda? Going out to the neutron star fields and farming for a couple of months. By the time I was ready to go back to the bubble, flying the 'conda was second nature.

I did a 11 month trip once. Would have been 14 months but stopped in front of a Neutron star and had to go do something and when I came by I was fried. Started back in the bubble and then went right back out again and that time I was gone a full 11 months.

I've heard of some being out a full 2+ years exploring, so rare, but there have been a lot longer...

Clipper won't get very much in jump range

Jump range, schump range. Low 30s will feel like long range to someone who's gone right round the rim in a stock Mk III :)

I'm not aiming to set any records, the Clipper handles nicely in SC and is the sexiest ship in the game, I don't need a huge jump range - I need to like flying it and being good for pictures is a bonus.

It took me 7 months to get to from the bubble to Beagle Point, and have just started making my way back. Flying back into the bubble with all this data will be scary so I'll need to find an armed escort eventually.

8 weeks is the longest for me. I watched nearly all the episodes of Star Trek TNG :) Finished last season at work :p

Week 7 of a general survey of the eastern core. Probably going to head home this week in order to take advantage of all of the new exploration-focused engineering options (sensors, DSS, etc.) and plan my next trip out.
