Newcomer / Intro How many types of "space station" are there?

I think I've only see four: the "platform"; the "long slim"; the "ring"; the "hexagon". Is that it? I want to discover for myself so just a yes or no please! :)

Apologies for my vague descriptions!

No - there are multiple types of "platform".

Plus the different interiors for different economy types.

No, that's not it.

You are missing:
- several types of platforms
- noob hammers of death, asteroid stations, various megaships/rescueships
- Jaques
- all planetaray bases (multiple types)
- multiple different, purely decorative (i.e. not landable) space assets

Dockable structures.
Coriolis stations, the faceted ball like stations from the original game, at least 3 varieties distinguished by how many noob hammers of death.
Ocellus stations, round ball like docking area with ring and various structures on a shaft opposite the docking slot, variants exist.
Orbis stations, cylindrical docking area with habitation ring attached other ring and structures on shaft, many variants including number of connections to the habitat ring.
All of the stations have either standard, agricultural, industrial, high tech or resort interiors.
Outposts there are over 6 different types of these.
Planetary outposts, ports and settlements plus engineers bases, lots of variety here.
Various megaships are dockable.

It depends what you mean by 'type'.
If you mean structurally different there are lots.
If you mean intellectually engaging there's only one main type.

I remember my joy at finding my first Asteroid station...so cool, though partly because I could finally pay off a fine and reinstate services ( so not that long ago!)

Ok, I need to know....what’s a Noobhammer?

Some Coriolis stations have two or four huge arms sticking out perpendicular to the spin axis of the station these make any approach to the dock other than from the front of the station perilous as they sweep through a substantial volume and can cause substantial damage if you are lucky enough to just get a glancing blow.
Docking computers weren't always fully aware of their presence.

I don’t think I’ve come across one of those....or more worryingly not noticed one

Not sure if mega ships or rescue ships can be called stations; but you can dock there, so if docking is a criteria for a station, then...

I hope I’d have noticed one of those as I approached and not just lucked out on approach....all too often it’s a good moment to slurp some coffee:eek:

The approach is so much of a problem, as you tend to notice the hammers in the HUD graphic.

What has got me more than once is forgetting they are there when I leave the station. Then get a nasty surprise when zipping round the station to point at the star I want to jump to.

I'm here... at last!

Just installed Elire Dangerous... it appears I have to conquer the universe again after becoming Elite in the eighties LOL

Training stuff first as its been all to long... Thrustmaster Hotas (from my flight sim) got a first mission to deliver some cargo. Launhed after stabbing at various controls until something worked. locked the destination in, warped to it dropped out, located the station, got to with about a 1km... requested docking permission, accepted... but could I find that letter box entry port; spent an enternity going round that station; nothing! I did find like a huge round skaffold lattice at one end with what looked like an entrance with an oblong door in the middle... but the door was sealed shut and all the lights were out! Was that it? Anyhow the permission to enter expired; renewed that but the door still would not open and all in darkness! Tried to knock the door by nudging up against it... still no entry... even after permission to entry had been given? Where is this old commander going wrong?

Depends on the station you are looking at. The hexagon will show a letter box in the HUD next to the compass. The ring type station has the entrance on the hub in the middle of the ring. The long thingamy one's entrance is in the bulbous bit at the fat end. The platforms will have an orangy glowy platforms when you request docking.

I'm sure there's proper names for this stuff but I'm new too.
