How many VR users are there in Elite Dangerous?

Hi all

I was tempted to turn this into a roll call thread and that might be still be a good use, but I have been wondering since Expo 2017 how many VR users are there in Elite?

I'm certainly not expecting there to be a majority, but one surprising thing at the Expo was that at least half, if not more, of the people I spoke to had either the Rift or Vive, not including those who intended to get an HMD.

I wonder if FDev have stats on this from the game telemetry, because I suspect its more than an edge case population...

Or whether Oculus or SteamVR stats can account for some of it? I run it natively so I assume they know as there is a configuration flag.

Well, if it turns into a roll call, you can count me as present. I wear my Vive about 75% of the time I fly.

I play about 2 or 4 sessions a week and i play exclusively in VR since the launch of Oculus Rift. And with no doubt, Elite Dangerous is still the best VR game out there. There are some really cool other games, but not a single one captures me longer than a few hours, while i have spent weeks of playtime in Elite

The exclusion of VR in Elite would mean an instant and permanent quit for me, as i have - not once - touched a monitor game since i got VR. I hope the decision to remove VR from Elite will never happen... If someone cancels my daily space vacation... Hnnng...

Indeed you just hit on the only problem for VR for me. IF it fails (I don't think it will this time but this is not the 1st generation of consumer VR)
Bit IF it did fail then I am done with the entire racing and flight sim genre. For me at least one you go VR there is no going back. I bought drive club for PS4 (none vr) and I just can't play it. It means I no longer buy the Forza games (and I loved the 1st 4 plus horizons on Xbox 360) and I will likely never buy another codies game again after they dropped vr support following the great dirt rally.

FD wouldn’t pull VR support would they? Some people are speculating, but I would just be mortified! EDVR has been my hobby for the past five years!

The only reason I keep playing ED is because of VR.

I started playing ED on my PS4, worked my way up to Elite Trader, then thought the game would be fantastic in VR, bought a PC with lotsa horsepower, Transferred account to PC. It took me days to tweak settings for my CV1. I now exclusively play ED in VR, the clarity is great, (all text sharp). I did a minor mod to the headset-faceplate to eliminate fogging. The only time I revert to 2D ED is when I need to SRV which is very very seldom. I'm pretty excited about the exploration updates on the horizon.

If FD were to remove VR I would abandon this game. ED in 2D is very err flat....

Me too, I'm lucky I get a tiny bit sweaty and queezy in the srv, but I can play all day in VR without bother.

Same here! I had elite for a year without VR, then I got my Oculus and it was a whole new game! been doing it ever since!

At first it made me want to hurl doing spirals in the SRV, but you can condition yourself. getting more and more tolerant of it's movement. I now do flips and stuff more than the 2D guys I bet! ;)

LOL

I play E D only for the VR, or at least sometimes it feels like that. Been a bit lost in the game since the Bait & Switch Gnosis incident.

Now I am into Project Cars 2 with a real wheel and pedals.

Hoping the Exploration updates will bring me back to E D, or the Gnosis will eventually jump somewhere interesting.

Sad really that my enthusiam for the game was killed by one mishandled incident by FD.

, I was so excited, I even built myself a Hotas Chair so I would be more comfortable exploring the Cone Sector

Guess the joke was on me.

I played Elite first on a flat monitor, then thought bet its great on three curved monitors, so tried that, then came the Rift. Flat monitor it was a good game, three curved monitors and hey Im loving this game, Oculus Rift this is not a game its real life, lol

Definite VR user here, used to play on a curved 27 inch screen with TrackIR, have not done so since getting my Rift a year ago and have no intentions of doing so either.
