How much better are large hardpoints vs. medium/small?

I'm asking because I just went from the Cobra to the Vulture last night but haven't gotten a chance to use it yet. I noticed that it only has 2 large hard points.

I'm having trouble believing that 2 large hardpoints will have greater attack power that 2 medium and 2 small. Am I wrong?

It is slightly more powerful, to where you can use 2 Large Pulse Laser's and kill every othe ship in game fairly well(extremely well by targeting Power Plant on large ship's).

Yes. Taking down an NPC Anaconda in a Viper was tough and took ages, with an upgraded Vulture it's easy as long as you're not careless.

One thing to note is that the Vulture can have power issues, two Large Beams will run out of power quickly, while Pulses are far better. Never tried Large cannons, or mixes of cannon and laser.

Edit - I mention the Viper as it has a similar hardpoint configuration. Never flew the Cobra.

I noticed the power issues right away (I bought it about 1AM last night and only tried it for a minute with power failures and went to bed lol). Figured I would fix these tonight. But good to know about the large hardpoints - My 4 beam laser hardpoints on the Cobra really struggled against Anacondas (I took one out, once, but it seemed like he wasn't even fighting back). I've been getting a ton of assassination missions and they have all been Anacondas lately

Pulse will penetrate armor better to hit the Power Plant if you target it, destroying that kill's the ship no matter the hull%. Just in case you didn't already know.

Thanks for the tip - yes, I knew that but my problem always that the Anaconda would take my shields down before I could even target his power plant!! LOL Those ships are either super powerful, or the Cobra is not that great, or some combination of the two of those.

Yeah, I wouldn't take one on unless in a Small Beam's Medium Cannon's Scout or double Large Pulse Laser Vulture. There's a reason it's named after the creature in that horror movie. ;)

So are 2 large pulse lasers better than 2 large beam lasers then? Even though the ratings look a lot higher for the beams

Yes for me, but depend's on what you're willing to put up with. Beam's draw more power tear up shield's but don't seem to damage internal's as well, though 1 beam and 1 large cannon might be good.

Beams do more damage, but you can't maintain firing for as long. I don't have my abacus handy to figure out if the more damage but shorter firing spurts is greater than less damage but longer spurts on the Pulse, but I'd guess the Pulses are a fair bit better on a power-limited Vulture.

It's a pity, as I love the Beam weapons, particularly on the Vulture where the hardpoints are just beside and behind the cockpit, so it almost feels like they're shooting from your shoulders; and they sound great.

When I still had a Vulture, I used one 3C Gimbaled Beam and one 3C Gimbaled Cannon. It was PvE easy mode for RES and Conflict Zone farming. Assassination missions were pretty easy as well.

The fact is, smaller weapons do less damage to larger targets.

I have upgraded vulture and its a beast

I can pretty much continuous fire pulse lasers and perma boost - you just need to upgrade power plant and distributor

the pulse lasers are much better than beam imo as they seem to be much more accurate especially when targeting individual subsystems

At work so not sure of exact set up but i can post load out later if will be of any help?

Im looking for some nice class 1 puls or Burst lasers.

now im running 2 medium Multi cannon, 2 small beams ( the best class 1 i found so far, cant seem to find better), and 2 small missile pods with tracking missiles.

but i want to trade in my Beams, since indeed they are useless for subsystems. Does anybody have a clue where i can find good Bursts, or Puls? Since the only one i found so far are doing WAY less damage. So i decided to choose damage over accuracy..

All you need to know! Small weapons have a 66% reduction in efficiency against large ships and 33% reduction against medium. Medium weapons have a 33% reduction against large. That's why the Vulture can take on ships that an Asp with its 6 hardpoints can barely graze. However, you still get great bounties against Cobras, Vipers and Asps. Not everything is about 'conda squashing!

Well, i did take out Pythons and Conda's with my not even fully upgraded ASP..

Its a fight, time consuming, but not hard if you have the right shields..

I think you can take out anything with anything. It's what you said though. Time consuming. I had a Python (Expert?) NPC vs my B/C class Cobra. 110,000Cr bounty on him split amongst 3 factions. He got my hull down to 64%. Took about 5-6 minutes to get him, some of it running away to charge shields. I love that kind of thing, but it's not really, really worth it, especially when the local station didn't do repairs! :)

Indeed, its not worth it.. time is money!
