How much is Odyssey worth to you with what has been revealed?

Really?

We've basically had a teaser trailer so far. Impossible to say. This is supposed to be their largest update, so we certainly haven't seen much more than a teaser.

Same. Also the direction of EDO has to be clearer to me to put money in it. And ship interiors is a must.

Master race LEP ftw!

I imagine it will be something like £50 for the delux edition featuring base game, Horizons and Odyssey, plus a few space suit skins thrown in as a freebie.

For those upgrading from Base game i think it will be £40 and for those from Horizons £30

I imagine Horizons will be withdrawn from Sale and people will get Horizons bundled in with Odyssey going forward.

I think the base game will then be sold at its basement price of usually around £10 to tempt people into playing Elite, then when you have them hooked you upsell them Odyssey.

There is some suggestion out there based off other MMOs that frontier may just auto upgrade everyone for free to Horizons, then just sell Odyssey as the sole expansion pack.
I can only see frontier doing this if its too development intensive for them to keep base game running. They could always say that the base game is being withdrawn and if people wish to retain access they need to upgrade to Horizons for £10.

Too soon to tell, but there being no ship or station interiors definitely ruined my excitement for the expansion.

At this point, maybe somewhere around €20.

With ship and station interiors I would gladly pay double that (€40).

With what I've seen at the moment- some planets with atmospheres and a plant scanner- not a lot. Free to play as a tech demo maybe?

The real answer all rather depends on whether some story comes back and how much it utilises walking about on planets for the gameplay.

If it was only atmospheres, legs and some new exploration tools... I'd probably pay about £30 for it, just because that's exactly what I've been envisaging for years... I'd probably pay it, but I wouldn't consider it good value. It'd leave not a great taste in my mouth.

Of course, we know that's not everything, so ultimately £30-40 would probably be reasonable depending on what's still to come.

I don't really play other games much, I'm not a "gamer". I've certainly never spent the £50-60 some new games cost. Elite is kind of it for me, and I tend to focus on exploration. Just being in the moment and taking in the environment. So with more variety of environments and reason to engage with those environments at a different, lower scale level... it's likely that I would get at least £30-40 of value from this, when the remainder of the content is all said and done.

That's not to say it can't be judged as good or bad within that, though.

€40 is what I expect the price to be roughly, even though I don't think it's reasonable for a DLC, as full games tend to cost that much (AAA a bit more but Odyssey isn't standalone) - but then I thought the same about Horizons and I bought it anyways, begrudgingly. Then again, I can't imagine playing Elite without Horizons so there's that.

So having checked my account Horizons was €24.99 so anything up to €30 would be fair to me.

If it's more than €40 €30 then I'd have to see what's included - having said that, I just dropped €130 on FS2020 so who am I kidding here (and yes, that was 100% worth it).

I do wonder if they rearrange the pricing structure by getting rid of Horizons, given you need that to play Odyssey - a bundle offer with a discount for Horizons owners would make sense.

I'm still unclear on the actual distinction between Odyssey and Horizons. Will Horizons receive the planetary visual/environmental upgrade? If Yes, then what is the draw to purchase the expansion?

The way I understand it is Horizons (i.e. planets without atmosphere) will still benefit from the updated planetary tech, but those planets which are currently non-landable will remain so if you don't buy Odyssey. And the rest of the additional gameplay of course locked away as well.

Ohh, that's interesting. So with Odyssey we'll be landing on atmospheric planets? Damn, that has some potential.

The new scatter rock / surface geology update is across all landable planets, so I believe Horizons users should see that reflected in the airless planets they can access. You can see an airless planet with new rock assets in the Dev Diary.

Odyssey users additionally get access to planets with thin atmospheres similar to present-day Mars.

In fact, a scatter rock update was originally touted as part of Beyond (with ice planets as the prime target but if you watch the Beyond panel from 2016/17, I think it was, they mention that the new tech will impact all planets). So really, this is a delayed Beyond feature like Fleet Carriers, so it would be unpopular to charge for it.

What's not clear is if the upgraded airless planets will have all the features of the new atmospheric planets, sans the atmosphere. Or if atmospheric planets get more dramatic scenery due to weathering, etc.
