Newcomer / Intro How to activate point defense?

I bought a turreted point defense, but, how do you power it? It says it automatically tracks and fires on incoming missiles but it's not in my firegroup...

Nevermind, I just saw that my power usage went up to 9.01 when my max is 9.0 :/

It fires by itself, you don't need to do anything.

It also kills any mines within 3km or so Point defense is a turret weapon (you can see the icon in fitting screen)

No need to deploy though? As long as it's powered in the modules tab

It deploys with your other weapons just like the KWS.

I have point defense on my cobra, had missile fired at me and it has never done anything any suggestions chaps?

Your point defense turrets are placed on your Cobra's belly. If you constantly pitch to evade missiles, your turrets will always face away from them. You need to dive so your turrets face tha incoming missiles and have free field of fire.

Nevermind, I just saw that my power usage went up to 9.01 when my max is 9.0 :/

When my power goes just over the limit of my power unit - I just disable the modules I don't need in a firefight, cargobay hatch is the first to go and it saves 6%
