Newcomer / Intro How to avoid trespass fines and bounties?

I'm taking a break from exploring and experimenting with other roles. I tried an assassination of a terrorist mission. The first part of this involved going into a site and hacking the data port. As soon as I enter the site I get a trespassing fine. Then skimmers get deployed and start attacking me. No problems. They are just an annoyance, but now I get fined for damaging the defences and a bounty.

Is there any way to achieve this part of the mission without incurring fines and bounties, or is it just a by product that I just have to put up with.?

Some missions are inherently illegal so fines and bounties are part of the package.

Depending on the layout it might be possible to activate the data port from just outside the exclusion zone but it’s probably unlikely. That is of course if it is an old fashioned non Odyssey mission using the SRV.

In my experience, you can avoid the bounty part by being fast. You get the trespassing fine as soon as you breach the perimeter, but you have 30 seconds or so to leave before it becomes a bounty. Get in, scan, get out fast and you'll just have a fine.

Yes, I agree. I wasted a lot of time figuring out that there were two other devices I needed to activate before the data port became active itself. I'll be faster next time. I promise!!

Yes it was an SRV mission and I don't think I could have done it without breaching the trespassing perimeter. Not in this case anyway.

I think people tend to do those in something like a Viper, quickly in-scan-out, shields surviving the fire. Still got to pay the fine though.

I have not done one for a v long time indeed.

When I do these I have a known Interstellar Factors 20Ly away. Then I would stack several of these and just ignore the trespass alerts and get shot at and and take the fines. I would be in a major overkill combat ship anyway, who cares. They can shoot at me all day. When done the missions pay off the fines all at once.

Notice that if you have multiple missions to the same base... you gotta scan the base, fly away, then come back and scan it again. Pretty sure you can't just scan it multiple times all at once.

Edit: I would scan the data point from my ship hovering over the base. I have used Python and Corvette. The Corvette you need to touch the nose almost on the data port to scan it, but it always works. I ignore any defense fire, and I don't shoot back. I don't damage anything. The shields on the Corvette are ridiculous, so I can take all the time in the world.

FWIW I enjoy occasionally doing those assassination missions. BUT I find that those where you need to interact with the terminal is more of a PITA than it’s worth. So you can avoid those by reading the mission description.

As discussed above, if you want to do these scans, it’s recommended that you do it from your ship. I’m not sure if all ships can poke their nose close enough to do the scan, though. It’s easier in small or medium ships for sure.
