How to destroy Pirate Lord???

Hi,
I just took my first combat mission to kill a pirate lord named "Lord Cheney". When I got there he frikin' blasted some kind of missile and took down my shields and haul to 34%. He was in an Anaconda rate Elite. I have a Cobra with 2x Gimballed Burst Lasers and 2x Gimballed Multicannons. I have an upgraded FSD, Power Supply, Power Distributor, FSD Scanner, Kill Warrant Scanner and a fuel scoop.

Should I be taking combat missions? I need to get a permit for Achenar so I decided that was the best way. What ships and loadouts do you guys have that can take down an Elite Anaconda?

Thanks,
Aaron

Wow... Looks like I need to upgrade

You should be able to do it with what you have, you don't need an Asp, but that would make it easier on you :)

Sounds like you got hit with the plasma accelerator, they are slow and usually easy to avoid, but if you are close and right in front they can hit, one shot has destroyed my viper when my shields were down but I was on 100% hull.

Lasers seem to do more damage the closer you are to the target, so sniping at it from 3km doesn't do much damage.

Its a shame there aren't more assassination missions, I've had 2 for about 30000cr. The target was in an Orca. I've had one target in a Dropship, all the rest of them were elite anacondas. Some sort of difficulty progression would be nice.

This wont give you a permit to Achanar, and to be honest there isn't anything to see there.
You need to complete missions for the Imperial Navy to get the permit, the assassination missions are for the smaller factions, although I did have to kill 2 imperial clippers as part of the imperial missions.

Yup... silly me. I never seen a plasma accelerator before. I think I should upgrade my lasers to beam. Righ now I'm saving up to upgrade my weapons

get a shield cell. They are crazy OP right now. I can kill the elite anaconda in my viper with D3 shields because of how strong one shield cell is.
Its easier than using the A3 shields without one.

I'll post a vid, I have about 6 of these missions on the go right now, shouldn't take long to hunt one down :)

I handle these missions in my Cobra using a little luck and reliance on my reputation with local authorities. I'm usually allied with the federation. When taking on these Pirate lords, I've noticed they pack a serious punch and will use missiles. So this is my general strategy, sorry if it's a cop-out:

Upon entering the USS, I immediately get a scan on the Anaconda and fire a round of to 'get his attention'. Going toe-to-toe with these guys in my Cobra has been a big no-no so I start leading the Anaconda in a little chase, either dodging missile after missile or using countermeasures until the Anaconda runs out of missiles (they dont carry many).

At this point, the authorities pop up on my radar, so my next move is to lead the Anaconda into the federal authorities' range. This whole process does not take long but if done right, you can have up to three authorities drawing a lot of the Anaconda's fire, which is your queue to put all energy into your weapons, take down its shields, and then either cut it down with your gimballed multicannons or start taking subtargets, your choice, and boom, a nice bounty voucher and a hefty mission reward :D

To get a permit to Achenar is pretty easy actually, and you don't need Pirate Lords or such for it. 1) get some personal weapons, 2) deliver stuff to place Xyz, 3) same, 4) not much different.... 5) you have permit.

In nutshell, pay attention to Bulletin Board...

Sigh... Shield cells aren't the end all be all of everything everywhere... If you are getting hit too much then they won't do you much good.

It's therefore imperative to fit a chaff launcher to disrupt the tracking on the Anacondas turrets... With those you won't even need to use your shield cells more than once or twice.

Hmm... thats quite true. But I have used up both my utility slots for an FSD Scanner and the K-Warrant Scanner. WHich one should I sacrifice?

Neither if you want to track and follow targets, unfortunately.
I haven't seen the chaff do anything to the elite anacondas, didn't work in version 1.0, not sure if 1.03 works.

Heres a vid I just made using my cheapy viper, D3 shields, 2x c1 beam lasers, 2x c1 multicannons

Darn....

These ELITE Anacondas I see in those Vids are super-easy...

Why the hell did I happen to run into the only INSANE Anaconda :p
The guys in those Videos would have been dead after less than 2 Minutes fighting like that.

Oh well, I'm still planning on getting my revenge on that Heavy Railgun beast. That thing hardly ever missed a shot with any weapon, no matter how dense my Chaff cloud was...
By the time these guys here selected subtargets in all calm, I already ate heavy Railgun and Missile fire and used up my first Cell Bank (almost lost Shields within first 5 Seconds of encounter) :p

I've killed about 50 of them now. The one in my video stopped shooting for very brief periods, which made me lazy and then get hit :)

I haven't really noticed any more difficult elite anacondas in the shooting that they do, just some have stronger shields and hulls.

They don't seem to shoot missiles if you are closer than 2km from them.

I was thrusting laterally the whole time I was on the screen to select the power plant. If the anaconda actually hits me a few times I would lose my shields.

Heh.

Don't get me wrong I can (and have) killed one in under a minute using missiles, but it's better to get a scan in and maximise any bounty rewards I find.
During the first one in my vid I was frantically trying to douse the cigarette I was smoking hehe.
I've killed so many of them now they are becoming a bit routine, but you are right, keeping calm is often the key, as well as getting close and under his belly.
As has been mentioned you don't need an Asp or anything like that but you do need shield cells.
Chaff is ok, and I occasionally use it, but I don't see it having as much effect on these for some reason.
Better to just pop some shield cells and get in close and under it.

What shield and shield cells are you using there on your Asp?
