If you mean your control bindings they are in a file called "custom.binds" which lives in the folder Users/***yourname***/AppData/Local/Frontier Developments/Elite Dangerous/Options/Bindings/

Look under the directory tree I gave in post #2 - "custom.binds" is there or if not there in a "virgin" setup, it gets written there when you change the bindings in the game options. If you are pasting your friend's "Custom.binds" file in there then:
When in the game Options/Controls menu there will appear a drop-down item "Custom" - (along with the default items such as "mouse and keyboard"), select the "Custom" and then "Apply".

Thanks for the reply but thats my problem.
My friend sent me his configuration file named as cmdrname.binds

I pasted that this way to that folder.
Today i tried to use his binds but the drop down menu does not contain his keybind file at all!
So i cannot change it from the game menu.

Should have worked but check it isn't marked as a "hidden" or "system" file - also check the first line of the file contents should be:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>

the next line says:

<Root PresetName="Custom">

The name there might be different, if so that is what will appear in the drop-down list

I can't help much further than that I'm afraid.

Thank you.
I changed right now the presetname.
Hope it works :)

OK i tried that yesterday.
Its intresting i wasn't even able to access the controls menu.
It simply didn't enter that menu.

I tried to rename the
<Root PresetName="Custom">
into any preset name. It didnt work either.

I quit!

If you can't get to Options / Controls from the main menu in E D then you need to raise a ticket with support.

If you can get to that menu - select one of the preset bindings (mouse + yoke would do) - then change a couple of the settings in the list - then click apply - that will create / overwrite the custom.binds file. You can then edit that file in notepad, pasting-in the contents of your friend's binds file.

Remember - if his file includes reference to any hardware that you don't have (a particular joystick for example) then E D will not recognise that custom.binds file. i.e. it rejects it if there is a reference to something it doesn't see on your system.

If none of that works then you really need to raise a support ticket.

P.S. If you are using steam then the options file structure might be in a different location - I don't know about that.
