how to find ELW's

OK i have it, how do i do the Habitable bit then please.

F0? I'm obviously hugely missing something here. What is F0?

The number indicates the temperature of the star. While stars are divided by letter, there are sub divisions based on temperature, and still others based on luminosity. So the difference in a F0 Star vs an F8 star would be mainly the temperature of the star. Which affects habitable zones surrounding them.

If you want to learn more about stellar classification, check this Wikipedia article

There's a drop down in the top right that opens various pop out windows. If you want it floating over the game then you want to open an S-Panel. Then right click on that and you can choose to show some details from your travel history and/or the body scan info (assuming you have a DSS on board, there's no journal without it unfortunately).

The buttons across the top let you toggle the transparency, whether it stays on top of other windows and whether it shows in the task bar so you can have it floating on top of the game (you need to be borderless, not full screen). It will resize to fit the scan info so you can leave it quite small by default if you're not including travel history.

Once that's done when you scan a body the details get written to the journal and we parse them and display them in that panel looking like:
Orange Main Sequence K star
Age: 11,078 million years
Solar Masses: 0.72
Solar Radius: 0.81 Sols
Surface Temp: 5,155K
Orbital Period: 40,368.6 days
Semi Major Axis: 9.37AU
Orbital Eccentricity: 0.085°
Orbital Inclination: -47.506°
Arg Of Periapsis: 144.109°
Absolute Magnitude: 5.79
Rotation Period: 3.8 days

Belt:
..... Belt (Rocky)
Mass: 1.5052 Moons
Inner Radius: 3.59ls
Outer Radius: 7.22ls

Habitable Zone Approx. 251ls to 501ls
(This star only, others not considered)

There's also a scan panel where you can review the scan information from all the bodies in any system you've visited which can be popped out or displayed in one of the frames on the main form.

Which all means you don't have to open the system map anywhere near as often :)

PS - you can change the text colour by editing the theme on the settings tab.

Ah it was the habitable bit I didnt know of, is that a new feature?

Congratulations on finding your first 4! ELW's commander! I hope you will find multitudes more of them!
So nice to see Chiggy chip in as well. I really love this community!

o7 fly safe!

I've recently gone back out into the black on a Binary ELW hunt.
So having read through this thread (and asked questions as you may seen) I looked at configuring my audio to hear the little 'bird song' that signifies an ELW. I turned on Stellar Cartography Music, but also enabled the DTS. Why I hadn't done this before I have no idea. But it really changes the audio of the game.

The next best thing to do as a learner I'd suggest if you are finding the distinguishing of the sounds a WW and ELW make, is if you know of a system that contains both ELW and WW, selct it in System Map and then hover and flip over the two bodies to listen to the differing sound they make.
If you hear the gentle bubbling over water (like its slowly passing over rocks in a stream) then its a WW.
If you hear the soft 'bird song' (a quiet almost parrot/tropical bird tweet) then its ELW.

Just to prove it to myself, I went to a system I made note of over 12 months ago, where what I thought was an ELW but some 450,000Ls away from the main star was waiting for me to return to. I left it at the time as I was meeting up with 2 others at Sag A*.
So I did the audio thing, deduced it was in fact a WW, but went out to it just the same and confirmed my audio deduction was correct.
3 jumps later, bird song and an ELW.

Hope this assists someone. Any further suggestions welcome.

I figured to be more effective I have to listen to the planet sounds. Still having a hard time though. I made sure all sounds are turned up in the menu. I went to a bookmarked ELW I had discovered and was able to hear that specific bird tweet. On other occasions I couldn't hear it but it was an ELW after all. A bit confused now...

I know what you mean, it can still be difficult. Maybe Chiggy could offer what his audio set up looks like seeing as he is the ELW God!! :)

Here yall go...I hear ELW/WW sounds 100% of the time...sometimes the birds take a few seconds to kick in...

It depends on what audio setup you're using. If you're using headphones or small speakers, I very much recommend setting "Optimise for" to "Night time". That basically amplifies the subtle sounds (more precisely, it compresses everything to the same level), which will not only make finding Earth-likes easier, but also make for a richer overall experience. However, for bigger speakers, "Normal" and "Full" are better choices, but on smaller ones, details are lost there as they'll be too quiet.

Cheers Chiggy and Marx. I have mine setup as per Chiggy (but with DTS Enabled too), with the addition of Marx's advise on 'Night Time' for my headphones.
