How to find "meta alloys" without guides and market-monitor?

I'm new to the game.
My principle is not to read any game guides outside of the game itself.
Research everything myself.
I also do not want to use the global market monitor.

In that case, how do I find the "meta-alloys" I need for an engineer? There is no clue where to look for them. There's not even information on what category this product is in.

How do the developers see my playthrough in this case?

Interesting question. My first instinct is to go to the sell section of a station's commodities menu - if you find Meta-Alloys there and select it does it give you any known market info on the right hand panel?

although does the game still hard crash if you visit a number of the barnacle forests? a bug which has been in the game for years .... (and if it has been fixed i appologise but have looked at patch notes and not noticed a confirmed fix)

Look in the in- game codex.

Meta alloy market description says they come from barnacles, barnacles are listed in three codex... and when you get there you'll quickly realise there's lots in the same system, and the Pleiades is a special region in this regard.

There is no information about "Darnielle's Progress in Maia system" in the game.
I can't fly there without a tip from the game. My in-game character doesn't know about it until he reads the information in the game.

Well, this forum IS out of game information.

Look in the game. Check the codex. Read the Galaxy News (there's an article about meta alloys in there somewhere). Look around at all the info presented.
