How to find neutron stars on the map?

Turn on Non Sequence ones! :) Near the core is where the most of them are lurking.

Going up or down 1,000 lys you will find the densest concentrations, there are literally millions of them.

depending on the region of space (e.g. outside the neutron fields) they are quite rare. also, the filter only shows non-sequence stars as main sequence stars - some B-class and blackholes have neutron star binaries.

there are at least 3 neutron stars "in" the bubble: 18 Camelopardalis, Beta Sculptoris and Jackson's Lighthouse.

Just that.
I tried to turn off every Non Sequence one, but it looks like there's nothing there! :(

Two points...ye turned off the wrong option and yer not looking in the right place...try several hundred lys below jacques or head into the core...plenty there to keep ye happy fer years...literally.

Billions.. As Ziggy Stardust has pointed out, remove everything except non sequence.

This is just a small patch, 17K from the Bubble, each grey blob is a Neutron or white dwarf. The fields stretch right around the galaxy (Above and below the galactic plane)

Outside of the fields they can be easily spotted inside most planetary nebula - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/141595-List-of-Planetary-Nebula

There is lots of them, the thing is they are mostly at depth of -1000 ly, so you need to dive to get there.
My way of getting to Neutron Highway to Colonia is:

COL 359 SECTOR QT-I D9-37
SWOIWNS RF-D D13-7
BLEIA EOHN ZJ-Z D6
BLEIA EOHN LM-V D2-3
BLEIA EOHN EM-M D7-0

from the last one you can just jump between neutron stars exclusively as it is so many of them.

Beware of neutron star bug which is not fixed yet, if you get disconnected being close to a neutron star, upon starting the game again you will be inside the flare and danger zone, and your ship will usually get destroyed. Then you write a ticket, and wait three days for them to revive your ship. Happened to me twice over the weekend.

Neutron stars can be tricky to spot on the galaxy map as their color easily blends with the background. I found the most success in spotting them by aligning the camera with the galaxy plane, zoom in and move forward as like travelling through space. Remember to filter out the most common stars.

As above. They are non-sequence stars. They are hard to spot as the colour is grey on the map. And the map only shows the primary star in a system. You can often find them as binary pairs to O,B,A stars.

They are rare towards the edge of the galaxy, and plentiful "down below" towards the centre.

Unless you have a ship with a high jump range or are looking to put your name on neutrons, its not worth the risk or the time. When I headed away from the bubble to do the 5k run for Palin, no Neutrons were near my course, so I bookmarked them for the trip back. My jump range is currently 18lyrs. The three neutrons on the way back gave me a max jump range of 23lyrs so I could jump to the next system, guess what the farthest system from the neutron star was 19-20lyrs lol on the last neutron I got caught too close and barely escaped. I had shut off most of my modules before entering the cone so that gave me time to wiggle out. And they were already discovered by other commanders. This will be my first and last venture so far away from the bubble. My other cmdrs will just have to deal. lol

The neutron stars multiply your standard jump range by a factor of 4. When there are lots of them to be found, it's worth diving into them to make long jumps. Saves me about 4 conventional jumps each time, with less fuel scooping to do which also saves time.

Others have reported that it takes too long to align and fiddle about with them, but I suspect that is because they are looking in patches where the neutron stars are few and far between.

But there is a penalty: the entry into the neutron tornado reduces the health of the FSD by 1 to 2% each time. Ideally, you need to carry an auto repair unit to improve the FSD health before it goes too low, or be able to get to a station on route to boost its health back to normal again.

yes this....

Nah. To travel anywhere at any speed it would require that the Neutron star actually boost your engines signifigantly. At best it reduced my round trip to EAFOTS and back by 30 jumps or so. So about 30 minutes faster and the trip still takes around 4.5 to 5 hours one way.

They will need to increase jump range to 800 to 1000% before neutron star travel really means much of anything. Right now its just a way to have a tiny bit of excitement on a long journey. Its the only thing that poses an actual chance to destroy your ship beyond falling asleep and hitting a planet face on.

As far as I am aware EAFOTS is out near the Heart & Soul Region, neutron density is sparse. Along the neutron fields you can dramatically decrease travel time.

Wouldn't mind seeing a competition to who could do the fastest time from the Bubble to Sag A using Neutron stars.

Wonder how much time could be shaved off.

Exactly. As it is right now, the only ones that will benefit are cmdrs with high jump ranges and neutron naming explorers. Everyone else should just avoid them.

I wouldn't say ignore them, just use your grey matter and weigh up if it will be beneficial. I have a smuggling ship based near Jacksons Lighthouse, I use the neutron star for fast jumping to Maia to collect missions, it even gets me to Farseer and Shinrarta in a fraction of the normal time. On the flip side, it would be a complete waste of time diverting my Diagundri freighters to Jacksons for the 300% boost.

Am also contemplating moving my Explorer fleet base near to Jacksons lighthouse.

True. And it is a sight to see lol So I would definitely suggest seeing the star at least once.

There are plenty of Neutrons even around the bubble. Not as many as near the core, but enough to shorten you trip by a bit. I tend to bookmark any along the path I am goin to take, and just did a trip to the Heart & Soul nebulas where I have at least 12-15 neutron stars (7500-ish ly trip) to help the journey.

Thanks for the good tips guys, have some rep+.
I'm using a 52 Ly Anaconda (very light, yes) to do this, and it seems ok even without boosting. A 7A fuel scoop also helps. I'll keep the Jacksons Lighthouse advice for in-bubble trips! :D
