Newcomer / Intro How to get involved with the community in-game?

Hello everyone!

I'm not really what people call a "New comer", cause I've played Elite approx 500h already. But, even if I'm now flying a Cutter, I still feel like a Newcomer inside Elite's community.

I don't have a lot of friends in-game, and the game feel more and more boring as I start to know the AI's perfectly.
Finding a squadron through the in-game interface is just a complete mess (really not convenient), and I'm more looking for people to join me in my activities than the opposite (even if I'm still open to propositions).

So how does people get involved in big events, and how to meet more players? Do you guys are using any particular communication method outside of the game? How to keep up to date with the community itself outside of official in-game events?

Thanks in advance commanders! o7

I'm a bit of a loner myself, so I'm not a part of any community except the forum itself so I can't really invite you anywhere. :LOL:

But if you like communities, I hear the Galactic Academy on Discord (Link in the banner above) is good place to start.
You could also try powerplay, which is a greatly cooperative thing and join a subreddit of your Power of choice.

Or just hang around here. There is a section for every walk of life in Elite and nice people to talk to.

Discord. My squadron Dont know if that will turn out to be an invite or not but you can contact us in game or on inara. There are always a couple on the discord channel. Good folks. Squadron id cl76 members in colonia and the bubble. Raven is the squadron commander and if you are looking for some folks to hang with that have no particular agenda, other than enjoying the game in good company, you could do worse. Much worse, beleive me, i have spent some time on discord.

There is a sub section in this forums called "Groups, Squadrons and Factions".

Alternatly you might find a group on INARA, a good outofgame source.
-> https://inara.cz/squadrons/

Ingame you might try to friend commanders you meet. Chances are better if you hang out at a place where a big player minor factions is present, if you might be interestedin BGS gameplay or at a powerplay HQ, if you might be interested in organized powerplay or join one of the big explorer groups, if you might be interested in exploring, or you might take part in one of the Interstellar Initiatives and make friends thre, or you might join one of the AntiThargoid forces, if this is your thing. Just for some examples.

I met a load of people at the FD Expo two years ago (At the bar) and have been in their group for a while.. We tend to use Teamspeak and Discord to stay in touch and a good few of us attend the various RL events around the UK..

I'm in the 'Hammers of Slough'

A few of my lot are streamers on Twitch (Every Sunday and other random times), so thats always a good place to go and look for people playing Elite.. Generally you'll find the same people on the channels, and mostly they'll be more than happy to share their CMDR name and wing up..
