How to get the DK2 working

Maybe someone could try that:

Comeback and say if it works ^^

The above steps WORK. No need to make primary as Elite has the option to select your monitor. However, everything else made it work. It looks great except for the stupid black blur issues.

Oculus Rift DK2 Support?

Hi!

I am eagerly awaiting my DK2 next week, and as a Premium Beta backer I am curious when the DK2 support is going to be implemented. As Oculus released a new SDK I think the current Rift integration is broken...

yep WOW! it works.

looks awesome in DK2, didnt really notice any blur, at least not like the other demos ive tried.

First thing i noticed, space looks gorgeous compared to dk1, inky blacks and you can see the colours of the stars etc now. sent a tingle my spine when i left the station for the first time.

All text is mostly readable now. and positional tracking.. oh my.. its awesome :) really adds to the "almost" presence feeling. had a few moments where i felt 'funny' wouldnt describe it as presence but something was definitely happening/different from Dk1, i can see the potential of CV1 even more now and im convinced Abrash it right when he sais "people will want it badly", DK2 feels like the next step.

had a moment where i was struggling to read the commodities menu a bit.. then i remembered.. oh yeah positional tracking so just leant forward a bit and problem solved :) the menus and star map look really cool as well, the screen contrast and blacks just make everything pop.

Did you notice any of the black smearing?

no i tried looking for it and couldnt really see any, unlike with tuscany etc which is really bad.

dont know what frontier have done different but its not really there as far as i could see.

oh and 1 other thing, positional tracking works really well even with the camera close, mine is set about 80-100cm infront of me and below, underneath a 40" tv on desk.

was able to look back behind seat and then lean over and it still tracked fine. a few hicups now and again but overall it worked great so no worries there.

Could you also say, how's the FOV of the Rift in game for Elite? Does it feel wider than DK1?

Can someone elaborate, this does not work for me. (windows 8.1)

I have 2 Tasks in my taskmanager:

1) OVRSercice_x64.exe. If I kill that task, it comes back up 5 seconds later, unless the util also is being closed.
2) Oculus Config Utility. I can kill that, then the util simply closes.
3) I cannot find the wscipt process that the post is talking about.

The video posted above says you need to kill 2 tasks, are those the two?
If I kill the two, nothing happens.

The tracker light does not come on when I chose the oculus mode in the graphics setup inside of Elite after killing those two tasks

[EDIT]

ok forget all that, got it working. It was the "Windows scripting host" that I had to disable in windows 8.1
also, the light will not come on on the tracker. It's a #$%@#$ amazing thing guys!

3. Is there somewhere... You don't kill that it wont work

Ok, now since I got it working here some feedback on how well it works:

1) Head tracking: Amazingly nice
2) Graphics: Cockpit and controls look good. Planets look great. Space stations look terrible. I guess the level of detail is not high enough. It would be great if there would be an option somewhere to reduce it
3) Star paths (the circular lines around stars that indicate where the moons/stations move) hardly visible. Maybe one should be able to switch those off?
4) Body: While the body looks quite slim, there is a clear presence of "love handles" on the waist. Looks a bit odd I thought.
5) There needs to be some cans of soda or such floating around behind the chair the space is too clean and too empty.
6) The position of the head is off. I have to move 40cm towards the tracker so that the collar does not show up in my face or the plate of the seat above me.
7) the plate of the seat above my head should move further up.
8) most importantly: There is a permanent, frequent jitter in the graphics. It's quite annoying. It's not when I move, it's always there. all lines appear to flicker in position and in copy some millimeters right above it.

Otherwise this is still by far the best VR experience that I could find since I got the DK2.

You need to turn vsync on to get rid of the jitter. Do it in the game settings or the display driver settings or both

Did you have a dk1? Do you notice much screen door effect with the dk2?

yeah im getting a little stutter but ED is power hungry.

Im running a 670 with on oc'd 4.5ghz 2500 and im probably dropping frames.

to keep this smooth at 75hz with no stutter this needs a top rig at the minute!

there is still some screen door adam, but its like looking at newspaper print rather than squares. its much less than dk1

See I do not think that I am loosing frames. I see the frames clearly and smooth. just once every second, when nothing moves and all is fine, all pixels jump up a bit and then come back. I have to see if I can film this somewhow.

I don't think original Elite, Frontier Elite 2 or Frontier First Encounters will ever support Oculus Rift. Would be kinda weird retro future cool to see the original wire frames in true 3D though... :)

never know - maybe AJ will put in some stereoscopic support in his version of DDED3D, but it's probably better that things stay true to the original...
