How to get the DK2 working

If you have a logitech headset make sure you deactivate the logitech software for it. The "Lcore.exe" process conflicts with the headtracker. So the headtracking won't work.

After you quit the Lcore.exe process, go to the control panel --> devices and printers and "tracker" device. Remove the device, then unplug and reconnect the Rift ("usb is enough"). The tracker will then reinitialize/reinstall itself and it should work. Also, make sure you run the SDK calibration first and test that the tracker is functional in the original Oculus Tuscani Demo before you attempt to run Elite Dangerous with it, just to make sure that the Rift is setup correctly and that there is no hardware defect.

I was able to avoid this by using a different USB controller with my logitech headset.

Hey guys, have any of you been able to use your mouse in the galaxy map when playing with the DK2 as extended (and thus E:D is set to secondary monitor)?

No matter what I do, the mouse in game, on the galaxy map only, ends up being both in the game and on my primary monitor, so if I try to click on anything in game, it clicks on my desktop as well, minimizing the game off the rift :(

I have everything working but there's a little juddering when I move my head around. The display settings clearly show it's Vsync'd at 75Hz and my rig can play the game (on my monitor in Rift mode without vsync) at a steady 90fps so it's not a framerate issue either.

Specs:
i7 4790K, 8Gb
Nvidia GTX 780 Ti
Windows 8.1

Hopefully Oculus fixes the SDK and direct mode works properly when I receive my HOTAS on Monday! ;)

When will direct mode and 0.4 SDK supported? We need this badly.. since the previous version before the beta1 update ran far smoother.

Hello everyone! First post here, and actually my first time with ED. I got my DK2 yesterday, and was waiting to pick up ED once I had it.

I managed to get the game working with the DK2 thanks to the instructions here, much obliged. I did have a questions about the quality though.

Overall it seems the DK2 can still be a little iffy with text, and I was curious if that was especially present with ED? I noticed that the majority of the HUD/Menus were difficult to read while using the Rift. I'm assuming this is a known, but I wanted to make sure that I wasn't rendering at an incorrect resolution, or doing something incorrectly.

At any rate, thanks for your time. Excited to keep playing and learning!

Yes, the text is just about readable with the DK2 but at least you can lean in to make it clearer when you have problems. With the DK1 it was unreadable!

How do I get a copy of what I'm seeing on the DK2 on my main monitor? Ideally without giving up 75hz on the DK2...

Those of you talking about judder, I had it to. Even though I had a solid framerate, it would still judder when moving my head. Reducing the graphics quality fixed it. I don't think its a FPS issue but something else, maybe related to the graphics settings. In any case, I lowered the quality setting it the problem went away, and honestly on the DK2 I can't really tell the difference anyway.

Head Tracking not working

Hello everyone,
Does anybody manage to make the head tracking works with DK2 and the beta 1.01.
The tracker's light is on but nothing happened when I move.
I found some workarounds on the forum, especially the one where wscrip.exe and ovservice.exe must be killed but I can't found the first one and the second one keeps coming back.

Thanks

This is my first post so Hi to the elite dangerous community! I've had my dk 2 since tuseday. Its currently got some issues with the camera but If i leave the camera unplugged and im in direct mode I can get the two oculus demos to work and helix rollercoaster. Any games that don't use the direct launching features of SDK 4.0 are useless to me :/

I can live with the position tracking being down but I'd really like to get started playing elite dangerous and developing games. So maybe someone else has experienced the same issue as me?!

the problem is I cant switch between screens on extended mode. When I change the multiple displays mode in the windows display tab It automatically assigns oculus to be my primary display removing the desktop and all icons from my usable main display. And nivdia control panel doesn't recognize the rift unless i assign the windows display mode to extended; as I can see (but no way use given the small portion of screen gives me) the rift appear icon on the nivida control panel display list.

If I can find a way to force my dell ultra sharp to stay as my primary display while i adjust my rift (rotate, refresh rate etc) then switch to it when I launch ED I'd be laughing. Maybe there's a hot key or a more robust program for adjusting duel displays?!
Please help :(

direct mode demo running alright:

dk2 and ed

got it to launch in extended

no head tracking at all..

cockpit its HUGE to the point i cannot see much of it at all... mouse works to look around but that is about it.. the scale seems to be messed up.

If head tracking isn't working then most likely you forgot to disable the OVRService.

my head tracking wont work either, both services definitely killed, I also lose alignment after a time and no amount of F12'ing will reset it, not stressed though, just going to wait for ED to support SDK4

1. Download the runtime and (optional) SDK
2. Set up the Rift by following the instructions ...
http://static.oculusvr.com/sdk-downl...ion_Manual.pdf
3. Make sure you update the firmware.
4. Test using the small room demo and / or oculus world using direct mode.
5. If they work, calibrate your IPD and tracking zone using the config app and small room. I find putting the camera on the back wall and moving the desk forward allows for more wiggle room.
6. If everything is cool, switch to extended mode inside the config app. For the moment keep the monitor set to primary.
7. Not sure about AMD, but for NVIDIA cards you will need to change the orientation of the screen, so that it appears the correct way round. This can be done in the NVIDIA control panel. Whilst you are in there, create a 3d settings profile for ED and set antialiasing and triple buffering to on.
8. Lastly in the NVIDIA control panel, set the Rift refresh rate to 75 hz.
9. Ok now open up the oculus config file again and hit Ctrl , Alt and Del. in task manager, close wscrip.exe and ovservice.exe in processes.
10. If its NOT Elite Dangerous you are wanting to play at this point, you will need to set the rift now as the primary monitor. If its Elite Dangerous you want, just open the game.
11. In options / graphics make sure the refresh rate is set to 75 hz and v sync is on. Switch to oculus mode and set display to secondary monitor.
12. Once in game, lean back in your chair and hit F12 to reset the rift and avoid clipping. If you are still not happy, move your desk away from the wall and reset again. (Assuming you have the camera mounted in the wall behind the desk.)
*If you are getting a message saying oculus service not available, go to your oculus folder and open the inside the services folderovrservice_x86 or x64. Then open the config.exe inside the tools folder.
* it's also worth mentioning that its worth spending some time setting up your IPD and playing with the lens distance (via the screws on the sides of the rift)... Especially if things seems overly blurry.
* if still no joy, try disabling / unplugging peripherals, particularly logitech devices and drivers.
* if things are stuttering this is possibly a vsync issue and you should check that you have forced it through in NVIDEA for Elite. (Make a profile and switch vsync, AA and triple buffering to on). Also make sure your rift is set to 75 hz in the NVIDIA panel in screen res section. Lastly set the colour scheme to windows basic. This disables Aero, which for some reason can play havoc with the rift monitor.
* also try switching input to PC from HDMI to DVI or VICE VERSA... No idea why this makes a difference but it has for me twice now!
* if it STILL doesn't work go back and try again, chances are you missed something or did them out of order.
* update the firmware a few times just to rule it out ... Again this one worked for me
* setting colour scheme to window basic (from aero) also has been reported to make a difference

sorry if this is what you've already tried.

Don't forget to update the firmware on your DK2 also. It's pulldown menu on the config app.

Dk 2 to print out

If you have also received the DK2 and want to give Elite: Dangerous a try you should follow these steps:
o) Make sure that you have the Oculus Rift SDK 4.0 Runtime installed
o) run the Firmware-Update for the DK2 to v2.11 (refer to the Manual for the necessary steps)
o) if you screen is tilted in the Rift, right click your Desktop, select "Screen resolution", select the Rift and then change the orientation
o) when the tracking does not work, open the Task Manager and kill the Tasks "wscript.exe" and "OVRservice_x64.exe"
o) make sure that the Rift is set to "Extend Desktop to the HMD" in "Rift Display Mode" via the Oculus VR configuration icon next to the clock in your taskbar
o) start up Elite and in the Graphics options enable the Oculus Rift

After these steps the Oculus Rift DK2 was working correctly in Elite: Dangerous.

best wishes

I've got everything to work except for headtracking. I've tried killing the processes and nothing works.

Why do i believe that everyone who has this problem uses windows 8.1? can anyone confirm?
