How to get the update

I have never played online games before nor used FPV for games so...

Its seems following the update there are issues, but my question is this. if I only play on VR and the only copy of ED I have is through the oculus store and can only be accessed through Oculus, does the update get pushed to me, or do I need a 2D copy to fire up and update that in order to update the Oculus version?

Currently my ED screen just says

The launcher needs updating first, then it will do the game. No idea how that works via the Oculus store though.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am probably not using the correct language. I launch ED from Oculus home, and its says login, then back on the pc desktop there is a program running which is branded ED and has links at the top to My Account, Options, support etc and has new info about Beyond chapter 4 and mysteries of the far god.


I assume this is the launcher... and I suppose I have to wait for it to be updated.

The Oculus version should be updated automatically, and the Oculus Home software will indicate that the update is available in the usual way, so a dot by notifications, and one by your library or home page.

As with all Oculus updates (in my experience) it will download and update automatically when Oculus Home starts, and I suspect you won't be able to launch it until the update is complete..

I purchased my Elite Dangerous through Steam. Experience has taught me that users who purchase the game through Steam must update through Steam. If you try to update via the game launcher you will get a message stating the launcher needs to be updated.

Don't Do It!

If you do, the launcher will update, the update will download but will not install and when you go back to your Steam application the update will be queued. You will need to download the entire update again via Steam (it will take less time though, since you already downloaded it once) and then after the update installs the game launcher will start without the "update the launcher" message.

The servers are fooked right now though so, don't be in much of a hurry.

PS: While waiting for the servers to get un-stuck, if you are a PC user, this is a good time to make sure your Windows OS and GPU drivers are up-to-date. o7

Just logged into oculus home, everything is updating as normal. 7.98 gigs
