Newcomer / Intro how to have free sight from the cockpit?

The debug Camera allows you to look around from outside your ship but it is not possible to control your ship in this mode as it is primarily for taking pretty screenshots.
There is no binding for it, but you can switch the HUD off by pressing Ctrl+Alt+G.

Yeah, I wish I could do that too. The debug flycam is slow to use and you can't control the ship while in cam mode.

I must agree that any kind of head tracking device makes Elite much better an experience. I personally use TrackIR (old v4 I haven't used for some time before starting with Elite) and when I'm playing on laptop at work or in a hotel, somewhere and don't have the ability to look around it looks.. almost claustrophobic.
No way - that's kind of the point of a simulator.
Although I'd wish for a rear view mirror. Or several, actually, including a downward mirror so you can actually see where you're going to land.
But you can choose between different ships - the Asp is hard to beat when it comes to visibility. Unfortunately, it's also hard to beat when it comes to ugly cockpits

...plus it's easy to beat when comes to a real fight.
Oh. Im sure its temporary case. The EDTracker Team is already testing next, wireless version! They also awaiting some kind of certificates to ship this wireless beauty worldwide (gues there are different regulations for devices talking to PC via cable and via radio frequences...
Anyways, write them an e-mail!! Ask them when to expect refilling the stock, as this device become very popular during last two years, I bet they making decent profit out of it already, so I bet they'll be seeling PRO again anytime soon. Those guys are peeking on those forums as well, they're a bunch of awesome fans that created something so awesome out of nothing. I hav very high respect to such projects and such creative people

For head tracking I use my mobile phone strapped to my headset (yes it looks as daft as it sounds - ask my wife!)
However the gyro's used in modern phone are way more useful than any or the face tracking stuff I've tried.
So until I get VR I'll keep strapping my phone to my head! Work bloody amazing as well!

I also love my EDTracker. Can't imagine playing without it now.
The Pro does go out of stock. It was when I first tried to buy it. Do drop them a line to find out when they will be back in stock. The team is super helpful and the support fantastic. My first one developed a fault and they sent a new one within hours. I've had no problem with the new one after hundreds of hours of use.
Whatever head-tracking you get you won't regret it. Well almost, I tried the phone strapped to my head method first, it was uncomfortable and sluggish.
If you go for EDTracker make sure to use it with OpenTrack (free). It's a bit more complex to setup but well worth the effort.
They just updated their homepage. I have to wait maybe two more weeks until the EDTracker is availble again. But i believe it is worth the wait...
Just wondering how to wear that thing. I do not like to put on a headset, as i wear headseats 10h a day when working. How did you guys strap it on your head?

Hmm I use my phone with opentrack and it's very responsive. Much better than any of the face tracker style stuff I've tried. The only gripe I have using this tbh is that after a while it gets kinda heavy but then again I find that with my headset anyways....

I lost my bindings (new harddrive) and whist I have most things back where they were I cant find the headlock toggle option anymore. I used to have the key ` assigned to toggle headlock on and off (it's right next to the key 1 where my figures rest). But now I cant find the bind option.
