Modes How to incentivise Open without buffing its rewards

I have seen a lot of posts about adding increased rewards to counter the increased risk of playing in Open.

These are usually shouted down by people who feel that this shouldn't be the case or by others who come up with elaborate reasons why it would be exploited. Some even claim they would modify the settings in their router to achieve this.

So giving that it is a given that the general populous feel that an increase in rewards for Open play is a no go, there is a simple answer that so far appears over looked.

Nerf rewards in the other modes!

This way, there would be no exploitable credit mechanics for those playing in open!

Basically you have fixed the game.

Plays who play with a lower risk, get a lower reward.

People who play in the main mode get the standard rewards.

Its a simple solution to an on going problem.

One thing is for sure; keeping all modes consistent for every activity in the game just hurts the mmo side of ED..

I'd hope that Fdev give at least one feature Open advantages or a reward bias in the future - Powerplay was their opportunity to do this before (because it was consensual, which is some sort of box Fdev always seem to want to check) but Fdev stayed in their comfort zone and it was predictably underwhelming (it would have been great as an open-only/heavily-biased feature).

I can't see Fdev changing their ideology though, because they seem to have some kind of core identity issue with adversarial mmo gameplay.

That identity issue is called "common sense". Because anyone who has couple braincells to rub together might by now have bothered to notice that trying to force PvP on MMO playerbase is definitely best way to lose your customers and thus economical viability.

Sylveria;6225897 Care to tell us what the "[B said:
main mode[/B]" is?

Fairly Obvious.. It's Open.

Hence why they didn't bother with a Private mode for the original console releases and they only stuck on the solo, because some people have lousy internet.
Solo hasn't got wings or multicrew, so is a lesser mode than Open but it just had to be there for the minority.

Frontier's accounts suggest they've balanced risk and reward adequately. Nerfing solo would see people tweaking their routers to get open benefits - the only way to counteract this would be to abandon the current P2P network architecture which would cost Frontier serious money.

Most of us are multi-millionaires/billionaires in Elite terms - don't think nerfing my game will make me more likely to play in open. I loathe PvP.

People have different personalities, Elite should have differing modes - none of them need nerfing.

Cheers, Phos.

Reducing rewards in solo / PG modes is the same as increasing rewards in open, so the same arguments apply...

Can you really not come up with anything better than that?

C'mon now, you gotta give em props for trying... week after week, same old propaganda, etc.

Takes a lot of resilience to continue to spread misinformation on the forums and pad numbers arguing gameplay styles and all that. ;)

(I mean, it has been going on steady for at least 3 years now...)

You are right, private mode advocates are usually very busy.

Hey guys, just your friendly neighborhood 90s kid here. Stopping on by and checking out the scenery. Just thought id say I fully support OP In this thread. You see some people say they want to play 100% of the game. But if they make those changes they will purposefully restrict themselves from playing all together because they would be at a disadvantage vs others because all PVP would be included in PVP activities. Something they are opting out of anyways, Not just objective control.

And then we have the risks vs reward problems. Everyone gets paid the same. Even though their chances of dying are much greater around populated areas. Especially CG's and that new passenger mission thing with the station getting blown up by thargoids. DID YOU GUYS KNOW THEM DIRTY GRIEFERS showed up there. My goodness.... Close to 20 mil rebuy for 3 mil in passengers? Totally worth it in open. Lets go to solo and private and get paid the same.

See there is no reward for learning how to deal with pirates or the more dangerous players in the game.

Ive got an idea. Lets rename the game. To ELITE DANGEROUSERER.

Happy Holidays, Love you guys. Some of us my not see eye to eye. And thats okay.

Hopefully there will be a way to meet in the middle. Somethings gotta give sooner or later.
