How to Jump to systems not on the navigation panel

So I just found something that will help a lot of us here in the Elite Dangerous universe. You can jump to systems not on the navigation pane, to do so all you have to do is:

1) Open the Galactic Map
2) Select the star you wish to travel to by double clicking it (you can find it by the search function)
3) exit the galactic map
4) align like normal
5) hit the Super Cruise
5) Rock and roll because now you can make it from A to B with out having to stop at seven points along the way.

This allows you to bypass some systems, I am currently in the Lakon type 6, and the largest jump I have done so far is 13.1 Ly, when I tried to do a one hop from Ross 1051 <-> Nang Ta-khain it wouldn't let me apparently there is a max fuel usage per jump of 4.7 tonnes. I was able to skip 2 systems along the way making it one layover instead of 2.

I don't know if the max fuel consumption is different per ship, or the differences between max jump range, but now that I know this I am going to be testing a lot more, since even though it's a whole other screen I have to go to it is much easier than jumping through a bunch of different systems.

I know this will help a lot of people, especially those trying to trade for the credits so they can get that next ship.

Great find!

Although I wonder if this is actually a bug/exploit, as it sounds as though it works around the fuel limit.

Perhaps raise a ticket so FD can explore.

it doesn't work around fuel limit, with lykon6 you can jump much further with it's default fuel tank (just not in one jump).

it differs greatly from ship to ship and even from ship mass, i.e., viper fully loaded with weapons/modules/fuel can jump only around 4ly! while when it loses 6-10tons of fuel or don't have all HP/modules then it might jump 5-6ly.

so how far ship can jump is not determined by fuel alone, it's ship's mass, ships engines too.

Yeah I don't think this is a bug / exploit, since it does eat up a good amount of fuel, and even tells you no. I think the shortcoming is in the list in the navigation pane not being able to list every single possible jump, In the Lakon 6 you can't even really make out all the lines for the possible jumps it's just one giant blue mess, even when fully loaded there are a lot of lines.

Yeah just got my Type 6 and I think I made a 15LY jump last night using the galactic map only. You can still see your jump destination in the LH UI panel, at the bottom, below the list of destinations.

Also, the Type 6 has really shown up some shortcomings in the Galactic map IMO. Gives me a headache to look at it now!

When I select from the Galactic Map, as the station I want to jump to isn't listing in the navigation pane, I still don't see it at the bottom of the navigation pane list. But after exiting the station it is there as a jump point in space. If you do not have enough fuel to make the jump it will tell you so and not allow the jump. So don't worry that you will jump into empty space and find you haven't enough fuel.

For the newcomers though remember to check out the place you are jumping to on the galactic map as it may be an anarchic system, and you could easily get shot. If it is anarchic the info is there on the map.

Don't jump to a dead planet like Styx if you are low on fuel as you may find yourself stranded in space with only suicide as an option. You can tell the dead planets because they have 0 population, 0 economy, 0 government and most importantly 0 stations to refuel.

Refuelling in space from a grouped friend or a SOS service could be a nice couple of options but if your careful you shouldn't get caught.

I believe the lack of an actual route planner was addressed in todays live stream by the dev's, when the planner is added to the S.B build you will be able to cut down on the spidery web of jump lines you see on the Galaxy map when using the Lakon ships by setting up a target destination and then only having the relevant jumps highlighted

It's not at the bottom of the list, but under the list. It says your current location and destination. Although I think this is buggy, but more often then not when you select from the galaxy map it will show up as the destination on the navigation pane under the list of jump locations only if you can make the jump. Sometimes I have had it happen that the selected destination will show there but I will be over the limit when I go to make the jump. But if it doesn't show up then you know you can't make the jump.

As for the second half, I've been told in the right hand pane under the functions tab there is an option to activate a distress beacon, which will allow you to fuel up at a more expensive cost if you get stranded. Although I havent been able to test it out myself.

Okay thanks yes I have noticed the second pane underneath but not really taken a lot of notice of it as it only seemed like a small confirmation panel of stations I had chosen in the navigation pane. I will have to look out for that in future.
As regards the SOS function in the right hand panel, again something I hadn't noticed. Having seen a post that someone ran out of fuel at Styx so had no option but to head to the nearest asteroid belt and commit suicide I just presumed there was no other option so thanks for that too.

I had it yesterday in DN Draconis, no more fuel. After hitting the distress beacon you get a pop up that says a civillian ship jumped in to help and it will give you full fuel for some credits. For my empty hauler it was 1000 credits, so no big deal.

Oh and if you want to suicide you can always just use the suicide option in the same screen as the beacon, saves some time ;)

that would mean the possibility to straight jump to SOL system...... ^^ With LESS jumps than in the other post about it! :D

I reported this as a bug about a week ago. The navigation pnel consistently lies to you, hiding plenty of viable destinations that you can get to via the map.

I think I am missing something, is the 'big find' that you can fly to other stars using the map? Because that's how it has always been as far as I know?

Or is there some kind of trick you can do on the map to extend your range?

The OP noticed that the Galaxy Map is working as it should, not sure that's a "find". The main issue is that the quick navigation list on the HUD does not show all possible destinations in range, which it seems that I and others have ticketed.
