How to pick a feature on a planet in map view and lock onto it?

I do a fair bit of exploring and often see an interesting feature when in System Map view on a planet's surface, but I can't see a way to click on a point on the surface to then head for it. Often that side of the planet is in darkness, and only when close to the surface does the night vision work. Interestingly I try to use the DSS to map the surface but somehow the features shown in that don't always easily match what is seen in planet view in system map. And as you descend to the surface you gradually lose that view into darkness too.

I just like the occasional drive around an interesting feature if I've spotted one.

I am just hoping there is a way to spot a point on a planet's surface, so I can ensure I descend to that point. Any ideas anyone?

There is no way to do that, unfortunately.
That's a shame. It is made more difficult because there is effectively no connection between what you see having mapped the planet ... and night vision, because the map view blacks out WAY before you get anywhere near the surface and night vision becoming active. If the planet is sun lit then it's much easier, but Murphy's Law seems to dictate it's mostly 'night time' when I'm trying to do it. And I can't always come back in 4 hours time or so when it would be 'daylight' .... usually because of real life stuff!
