How to play together? Can't get same missions - not one single mission.

Came back to the game after a very long break, bought 1 of my boys the game just now. I'm trying to play with him and one of my other sons. We're all at different stages in the game, I've got about a billion net worth, one son is at like 40 mil, and one is brand new. We all went to the same system, same station. I had no missions in common with the newbie. Not a single mission we could both get. I swapped out my Anaconda for my Imperial Courier.

So we're on a Courier, a Sidewinder, and a Vulture. All small pads.

How can we play together? My newbie son sees all these Assassinate Pirate Lord X or Y missions, or courier missions. We can't see those missions.

Is the game designed to not allow us to play together? I mean if he takes a Assassination mission, I can't even see his mission signal source. If he takes a courier mission, all I can do is fly along and land there for nothing.

Are we missing something?

Thanks.

You want to look for wing missions. They'll have a little blue icon next to them. You can take a wing mission, and then share it to your wing from the left hand panel. Note that you can only share one mission at a time. Your wing mates should get a message in the comm window, which I believe directs them to their own left hand panel.

Thanks Zerocz for taking the time to reply. That's an unfortunate design choice. We like to play games that we can play together ><
Thanks

But you can can't you? In terms of missions Zerocz has answered - take a wing mission and share it to your wing. Put the people you want to play with in a wing. Then you can go around together and do all sorts of stuff together. I think. I tend to be a solo player myself.

Sure you can. One at a time. Extending the most boring and non-fun part of this game - travel time to and from where the playing actually happens.

Other games let you just play multi-player co-op. Go grab all the quests in a quest hub and go do them together, maximizing the fun time you spend together instead of maximizing the travel time.

Also, not seeing too many wing missions that a sidewinder + a vulture + an anaconda can do. I got in my eagle and still, not really much we can do together.

What would be appropriate right now is for us to be able to share some of those assassinate pirate king joe who's harmless, not pirate king bob elite beyond all three of your ratings.

Or courier this to there since you have a scrubby little sidewinder and your brother and dad are coming along in their lowbie ships. Not ferry 5000 units of water with your sidewinder, vulture, and eagle.

So yes, technically you can do missions together. Practically speaking - not a design that invites you to play together unless you're pretty much exactly in the same place in the game w/ships that have similar capabilities.

Take your wing to a high res site and let them get some credits so they can upgrade their ships. This game isn't a quick fix for team play, that's for sure. You have to invest a ton of time into and and unfortunately kids often don't have the attention span for it.

ED is not a typical MMO with quests. There are wing missions you can do together, you can wing up in a combat zone and even wing up to do trade and mining.

But there are no quests in ED. You need to build those quests yourself with the tools available which most are wingable.

Each song member can share a mission with the wing I believe, so you can share multiple missions. And let your kid have some input. Double win. Not sure why stacking missions is your goal, seems... misguided.

My bread and butter are pirate hunting wing missions, but I usually solo them, except occasionally when my brother joins me. I'm pretty advanced compared to where he is ATM, but this type of mission is great for any range of experience or combat ship size.

Sometimes pirate massacre missions pay out 30+ million if you have taken the time to get in good with a faction... and they stack. I have a system where I'm allied with most of the factions, and those factions offer pirate massacre missions all in the same system. I load up with wing missions (these are nice because they also give you a week to complete them) from 5 or 6 factions so my kills get me as much as possible. 200 million for 70 kills is about average with this method, I guess. Stacking will work with a wing, but takes some extra planning since you can only share one mission at a time with your wing.

Here's how my brother and I do it:

  • I stack the pirate massacre missions.
  • We fly to the target system and dock at a station, so if either of us dies we respawn right there.
  • We scum the nav beacon, with multiple CMDRs in the instance, spawn rates are up.
  • In my case, target system is one jump from mission givers, when a mission completes, we go and cash out, then I share the next closest one to completion. Rinse, repeat, profit. I'm worth a billion, I made it in a few weeks.

Pros: Scanning ships gives a lot of emmissions/shields data materials. Even if my wingmates need to log out, they keep the shared mission and if I complete it, they can cash it out whenever they log in next. Pirate hunting as a team works for everyone; the heavy hitter can do most of the heavy lifting with the smaller ships helping to keep the heat off when the heavy needs to back off and recharge shields. Also scumming a nav means you can get the local law enforcement to help out with pirate kills, just be careful not to friendly fire them. When winging, every wing mate has their own hostilities also, so one can attack a tough enemy and another can hit a weak enemy, without each worrying that the other enemy is going to get in against them. This allows one wingmate to initiate combat, and only have the target to the other wingmates when those wingmates also fire on the target.

Hope this helps, pirate hunting is a blast!

Oh, and the Vulture is a great ship for it; it has Python level shields and the hull hardness rating (a hidden stat) of much heavier combat ships, so A-rated it is a beast even without engineering. Engineered, it is super fine. ;)

Have your lower level son look for wing assassin missions to get easier targets. Wing up, share the ticket and go shoot some stuff. For cargo missions look for wing delivery missions in the 1200t or lower range and start delivering the cargo yourself in the Conda. Then wing up, share the ticket and finish the mission. Just because it's a wing cargo mission doesn't mean everyone needs to do equal work. You could do 100% of the cargo yourself and share it with others. We do it all the time in our squadron. Especially with new players with not much cash and small ships.

Edit: Oh and every person in the wing gets 100% ticket value. It's not divided between the group or who does the most work.

You could also multi-crew in your 'Conda... Can you launch multiple player-controlled ELFs? That would be a pretty cool way to play together. Dadda in the 'conda with the kids flying fighter support!

That is just nonsense. You can take a wing mission and be the lead and the "less capable" wing members take part with you. For combat you can also have them multicrew with you and have them take gunner role or man a fighter.

So really, a bit of research could have saved you making a knee-jerk rant.

Community Goals shold be back "soon", too, you can play them together :)

Also, you can bind your FSD and activate a wing beacon, so you can help each other with missions even if they're not shared.

About wing missions, each wing member can share one, but you can pick more than one. Using wing beacons, you can do all them even without sharing, you just have to be in a wing and share them before completing them in a station (do all them, then at the station complete the shared one, share next one, complete it, repeat). You can even let them join you as your fighter pilots for the hardest pirate lord missions, then disable multicrew when the pirate lord is dead, invite them to wing, share then the mission and complete it so they get the payment.

I though the point of the new mission server was that everyone sees the same mission list.

Is that not happening?

You see missions balanced for your rank, so an "elite" pilot doesn't see the same missions than a new one.

Just curious, I know that if one member of a wing accepts a mission, he must make it available to the others in the wing and it's their choice to accept the invite or not. However, can all member of a wing, accept any mission other than the one the other member has already accepted.

Yes, if you accept a wing mission from a wing member, you can still grab other missions as long as you have enough mission slots (I don't know what the actual max mission count is off the top of my head). You could even, say, plan to play with your wing over the weekend, and have everyone keep an eye out for good wing missions during the week and grab them. Then you guys would just take turns sharing and completing them when you actually play together.

As I mentioned, wing missions are generally 7 days and a wing member can go offline, the others can complete it, and the member who left can log back in later and claim the rewards. If you have a decent ship wing missions are not hard to solo, they just take time. The payout can be way better than regular missions. Pirate massacre wing missions for me are typically ~10 million, often ~20 million, and occasionally ~35 million. It's easy to stack them and have 300-400K worth of missions in my mission log.

Yes you can have 2 human controlled slfs but you can’t wing and multi crew at the same time unfortunately.
