How to Pronounce Lakon?

OK this one has been bugging me for a while, and I'm curious if it's a British versus American thing.

I'm an American, and I pronounce it "Lah-con." The NPC station traffic controllers (Brits the lot of them) say "Lake-on."

So which is it? What do you say? Is this one of those things where we just have to agree to say it differently, like the pronunciation of Mazda?

What American pronounces it Lah-Kon ? :D Apart from OP of course .... is this a State thing? What other words are similar to this and pronounced this way? I am curious, because I am on the East Side, but British also.

Take the "Mazda" example, Americans pronounce it with a short initial "a" while Brits pronounce it with a long "a," that's exactly the same as what I'm talking about with "Lakon."

Yanks also say Hyundai as "Hun-day", and the politicians turned Iraq into an Apple product... (The iRack).
