How to Pronounce Lakon?

I was inclined toward Lahkon or maybe Luhkon until hearing it said ingame (and still really, if I'm just reading it to myself). I can't think of too many similar (two or more syllable) words that would begin with "lay". Lakota, Lacross, laconic, lacking, lackeys, lacquer, lactate...afaik none of these begin with "lay" anywhere in the US or Canada that I've been.

Take the "Mazda" example, Americans pronounce it with a short initial "a" while Brits pronounce it with a long "a," that's exactly the same as what I'm talking about with "Lakon."

Really? Where'd you hear that? South London lad born and bred here, with friends from all over the British Isles, from Aberdeen to Truro, Aberystwyth to Great Yarmouth, quite a few from the Emerald Isle too, both north and south of the border (most of whom think I'm weird for still gaming in my 40's!). And I can categorically state that the only time I've ever heard "Mazda" pronounced with an elongated 'a' by any of them, it was by a very small percentage of rural West Country people I know, which carries through in their general conversational pronunciations (God luv'em!).

Back OT, I've always pronounced it as 'Lay-kon', ever since the original Elite (and before there even was an ATC to clarify it)!

Re: Mazda. I've most often heard it as "Mozda" (same vowel as pause) in Canada. Maybe that's where he heard it

For the record, here in Japan "Mazda" is actually a three-syllable word: "Ma-dzu-da."

For the record, here in Japan "Mazda" is actually a three-syllable word: "Ma-dzu-da."

In Japanese it was originally Matsuda (まつだ / 松田), but Mr Matsuda himself thought that would be too hard for English speakers to pronounce (wanted to break into the American car market) so it was contracted to Mazda.

Heh, because most of the rest of Britain acknowledge that, while Clarkson the man-child may be funny, he's also a phenomenal bell-end... [haha]
