How to resolve combat logging problem

Hi. This is a small idea but could resolve the problem about Combat Logging. Actually if a player leave the game during a combat, him ship leave the game too. Cool. Put, for open play game a timeout of 120 seconds ( leave game ? forced timeout - Crash game? forced timeout - hung up connection ? forced timeout - I want to leave the game ? forced timeout )

In any case the client is off but for other 120 seconds him ship is in a space, or in a combact zone or in a coriolis starbase etc etc

Just to be more clear. If during a fight I leave the game, my ship leave with me. With the timeout my ship is always in there ( combact zone or where I was ) and if I am under attack I will lose the ship.

Always for open play you could create a " checkpoint " point where commanders can leave him ships without go back to any station ( near nav beacon for example ). Checkpoint is in no fire zone and weapons are all deactivated. With the 120 seconds of timeout the ships are safe.

I am not a programmer but i think it could be pretty easy put the timeout. It is one idea for resolve the problem. With this timeout combat players will think two time before to engage combact or leave the game during a fight

And resolve thousand and thousand of report too :)

Maybe is a stupid idea but seems so easy.
 
Unfortunately - there's no way for the server to create a copy of your ship upon disconnect and have AI fly it around so another player can blow it up.

All gameplay and client interaction is done on the clients themselves. No client, nothing can happen.
 
no no no. you misunderstood. No IA. If you leave the game, your ship is stopped for the next 120 seconds. No actions. Enemy kill you and you lose the ship. So much is worth to stay and play :)
