Press Ctrl-B to show your bandwidth. If it's in double digits, you are on your own.
unfortunately, whine banning hasn't been implemented yet.
your connection to the server is outbound (like accessing a web site), however p2p requires inbound connection listening which is how other players connect to you and you to them. Ideally, the game should detect this not working as intended and let you know and kick you out of open since this would be a way to exploit being in "open" but essentially playing in the safety of solo.
i suggest you try it with a friend. If you see them as online when you are on, wing up and see if you still can't share the same instance.
Not exactly. You may be able to connect to the server (the connection is going from you to server) and you can play. But it is possible that you can't see other players in Open, because the firewall blocks the P2P connetions from them to you.
Havent made any friends IG to play with sooo cant test it.

Ok - so you have some traffic. Now look at your Elite network log and see who you were playing with - and possible reasons you weren't seeing them.
Have a look in C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1xxx\Logs

And if you find another CMDR and send him a message he will mostly jump away to next system before you manage to press enter.
Then there are those CMDR that don't replie, they just mind their own business.

I have actually never meet any "friend" when ive been playing in Open or talked to someone long enough to be friend with.
I said it before, best is to join a group if you want to socialize

Dariusz1989 , most ppl that are here say amen and yes to everything Frontier Devs do, i agree with you that ED is very anti social and very noob unfriendly, a global chat was often a discussion in this forum. As more time will go by and more newbies will come to this forum and ask the same question, mabey some day the devs will give ED the resource for a global chat plus moderation. And to you guys who dont want a global chat, if ED would put one ingame and there will be a option to mute it, you guy can continue to play your Elite:Antisocial.

I payed more atention to my chat lately. They are there. They just dont reply. The chat itself is build in such a amazing way that unless you are specifically looking at it you will not notice it in no way .
Aye, I use to miss message my self even if I play in a group. Sometimes iam away from keyboard when iam on route to a distant planet/station etc.
And I can tell. it was much worse before. When someone sent you a message , you had to face the player and target him to replie. Going in supercruise. cut throttle, turn around, target him and loose you current target just to replie..
Ohh and my standing about a global chatt. Well I wouldn't mind if there was some. Some people want it and some don't. As long I can turn it on and off or block players

Global Chat? Absolutely! Who doesn't enjoy an afternoon of intellectual stimulation while chasing bounties, dodging pirates and undermining governments? How did we ever get along without this in ED?

ROFL. You're right, it's been so long since I've been near a place like the AH in Stormwind that I completely forgot about the beggars everywhere.

I haven't even seen anyone use the Local chat in all my hours of play - would expect most ED players wouldn't use a Global one either.
From my experience in other MMOs, I generally turn it off anyways since its a ***** talk filling up my screen.
No issues in it being added as long as I can turn it off and ignore it.

Sandro answered a question I posed in the DDF in January this year regarding global chat channels in the negative, citing 2 main reasons:
1) "technical issues with having system or bigger broadcasts, which we don't run into when we are dealing with very specific subsets"
2) His personal dislike for global chat and belief that "simply because it's a mainstay of the MMO genre" is not sufficient reason to include it.
but he added that this was just his thinking at the time.
Personally I'd like to see more local chat channels, such as Power and faction-specific channels. eg It would be nice if when you dropped into a sector you could hail fellow Power supporters engaged in similar tasks there and wing up.
Yes, I know all this could be done on TS but that's not the point. P2P doesn't have any bearing either - FD could easily run a voice and text server parallel to the game.
