Hi. The newsletters seem to feature a drabble now and then (100 word short story). I had a quick search of the forums and FAQ but can't see how to submit one. Any hints?

To be honest, I think its something that will be limited. Michael hasn't specifically restricted it, but since the potential for getting hundreds and hundreds of drabbles to critique, correct and use is high, it may be unfair to Michael to expect him to take on that task as well as his other hundred or so responsibilities.

I'd be happy to hear what Michael thinks. It doesn't have to be him that judges submissions. We could have a (sub)forum and let the readers vote. Who knows. 
I think is it not soley a perk of the writers forum? I don't have access myself and I'd love to dribble... drabble in there....
Maybe we could just create a non-used drabble thread?? Just for fun?
Maybe call it Unlite Dribbles... and follow the same strict rule of 100 words only and ignore completely the other restrictions like fitting in the universe or knowing anything accurate about the ED world..
I would be happy to contribute some mind farts to it..

I think he'd agree with you, i would in that situation as i imagine he's a very busy guy.
psykokow's idea of a 'just for fun' drabbles thread in fan creations is the best option i think, that way if he has the time and the inclination it's his choice to look at them or not and he doesn't end up having to wade through an inbox full of drabbles every day.
Agreed. After all, it's more material for Frontier (assuming an appropriate rights assignment on drabble submission) - if they get a whole pile of them (and they are of sufficient quality) then Frontier could build up a collection which is just a bit more collateral to ship with the game.
For me, the stuff that was packaged with the game was one of the stand-outs from the very first Acornsoft version of Elite. As a young boy, it helped to spark my imagination and build a back-story around the game.
Michael already has more than twenty drabble submissions from the Writer's Forums. These all have to go through an approvals process.
From the point of view of the writers, it is an opportunity to give you and others a taster of what to expect from the forthcoming novels and short stories. It also a chance to introduce the writers through the newsletter.

Totally agree Allen, thats why I say we could do a 'fun' drabble thread for people with a creative flair to let loose. And without access to the elite writers forum it would be greatly difficult for us to be correct and accurate in detail.
So if people wanted to dabble in drabbles and dribble out some drabbles then a fun drabble thread would be just the dab.
Would that upset the applecart? Or just allow the non-writers to thoroughly upset the writers with our garmatical and spleling errirs. Maybe it would be painful, if sentence construction was seen out of order; incorect - and in the wrong place. And maybe it could be a bit of fun for us nutters to see authors sparking and almost losing it over the innapropriate use of simile like an egg rolling down a hill?

You guys have got me wondering now if what we write in the Thargoid bar thread is ok?
I mean i just assume everyone knows when reading its just for fun, and very inaccurate to what the real ED history/fiction will be.
Just i would hate to tread on anyone's toes, for my part i know my little snip bits are pretty poor to most, but am really enjoying the fun interacting with others while waiting for the game to come out.

Without wanting to speak out of turn (Ashley or Michael will correct me if I am wrong), writing them is fine, you've no need to worry on that score.
The issue is their appearance in the newsletter. The moment they are published in the newsletter they become official and canon. The original post suggested submitting them. In the circumstances, I would suggest not doing that. There is already a large amount of writing for the game and fiction waiting in the approval queue and poor Michael has more than enough to do with keeping up on that.

cheers Allen, I know the original poster was interested in submitting them, I had figured that was the exclusive right of the approved members of the writers forums.
I would never consider my writing 'spelt' right enough to submit, but i'd love to have a go at 100 words to see what I could do...

I have to say I'm rather surprised at the reaction to my post; there are rather a lot of negative and bureaucratic responses. Fair enough if the drabble in the newsletter has an official purpose, there's no reasonable reason to prevent the fans - we do bring something to the game after all - from having an opportunity to express themselves with a drabble if they so choose. So my vote is also for a forum.

By all means, write as much as you want to unofficially, being inspired by the Elite Universe is really important. yup, that's the plan - give it a few weeks and I'll have the revamp of the main pages finished then it will get real fun as i'll be offering active writers blogs/webpages of their own within the site with a private forum to work on stories with the help of a select few friends. (qualification required)
the blogs/pages are for short stories and above really but i plan on putting a 'drabble box' on the front page that serves a random piece each day.
I'm leaning the CFM (Modx Revo) as i go so i can't give an exact launch date for the revamp but if you know anyone who is good with html/CSS styling I'm always looking for more staff.
