How to survive a server outage - positive suggestions welcome

I feel sorry for the moderators having to deal with all the complaints and having to close down a bunch of useless threads when we all should know that we just post a bug report and make a cup of tea and go read a book for half an hour.

So positive input welcome.

Here's what I do.

I post a bug report, put the kettle on and start up the pop corn machine. Tonight is special, it's a Friday and I figure, just like pretty much ever week the servers might be down for a bit so I popped out earlier and bought the ingredients to make the perfect bloody mary.

I'm an old school gamer who plays just by keyboard without a mouse and keep a fancy clutch pencil and good quilaity note book to hand. So in a few minutes I'm going to settle down with my note book and plan my next adventure in Elite Dangerous. I've been working on stuff in power play and I'm just going to spend some time pulling together my plan to shore up Utopia's economic infrastructure. How do you Chaps use your time constructively?

If any moderators read this, I'd like to say thanks for keeping the forum clear of serve down complaints. Good job.

...I feel sorry for the moderators having to deal with all the complaints and having to close down a bunch of useless threads...
When moderators close threads for duplication but are not switched on enough to include a link to the thread that they prefer us to post in, it doesn't really help their image. Poor job.

I'm just going to sit here, have a beer or two, relax with a few episode of Bab 5, browse the forums.

Skip around the interwebz looking up some more info on faoff as I can and look forward to a full day online tomorrow; hopefully the bounty on the gremlins would have been collected by then.

Oh, will probably pop onto the GW2 forums and laugh at the Engineer outrage; always puts a smile on my face.

I should point out too, contrary to some opinions, we moderators cannot do anything to fix the servers.

Damnit man, don't give me excuses give me results! *Picard out*

Im impressed with your speed...you outkill threads over the other mods 2:1...you are Elite Moderator :)

I'm pretty sure the thread killing did nothing other than annoy people.

We all get the logic of "here's a dedicated thread", but having too many "The servers are down!!!111" threads for the duration of an outage really harms nobody. Clearly closing them rabidly was a poor choice. Looked a bit, you know, insane.

Anyway - to answer the OP - if at all possible, alcohol and music. Maybe go for a walk. Nice cup of tea if it's earlier in the day.

Ben,

thanks for asking this key question.
I am firing up my "Offline mode" version of the game so that I can continue to enjoy my ED experience while they play with hardware issues.
I just don't care really, because all of my progress "offline" will be automatically wrapped back into my "online" status and progress........Oh...wait... ;-)

Take 2....
Enjoying a cup of tea and a digestive biscuit.

Notice they dont close this thread...which is essentially the same discussion about "a server outage"... perhaps because it's trying to put a positive spin on what a shambles this is

This seems an appropriate place to post this image (large image warning) ... and a reminder why we should respect the moderators and show them some love.

I also check other forums, like the ED Role Playing Hub cough cough that's not a direct advert in Ben's thread, not at all, and you don't even have to follow the link in my signature if you're intrigued...

Anyway... Tea, anyone?

the ingredients to make the perfect bloody mary.

Wars have been fought about the best way to make to make tomato juice just the right kind of spicy/savoury.

Few argue about the sacred Tabasco, only how much to use (hint - lots)

And clearly celery *salt* is non-negotiable, although minor skirmishes can ensue about an actual stick of celery.

Using expensive vodka is a criminal waste.

A 'virgin' Mary is acceptable if you are pregnant, or a recovering alcoholic. Otherwise, no.

And really, a Bloody Mary is a hungover brunch drink (and having a second is always a foolish mistake, it will never be the same). Right now, it's gin-o'clock!
