How to Unlock Experimental Effects

How do you unlock experimental effects?
Do I need to get the engineer to a certain rank? Or do I need to upgrade a module to a certain rank? And is so, which rank?
Do I need to do this for each engineer?

On foot: engineers don't have ranks, you just need to unlock them
Ship: the module needs to be one the engineer can work on, but otherwise there's no rank requirements to apply any experimentals they know
Ship remote engineering: you can't apply experimentals

You must have completed any rank on left side (1-2-3-4-5), select this completed rank by mouse click this will allow to add experimental.

Thanks for your help. That's why I could not find anything about rank requirements :)
But I figured out what confused me now. You need to select the current applied modification on the left side before the "experimental effect" button becomes enabled.

There is a minimal rank requirement in that you need to roll once on G1 engineering on a module in order to apply an experimental effect.
You can't apply experimentals to an unengineered module, certainly, so you'll be gaining rank with someone. But I think you can engineer the module with someone else (or remote workshop) and apply the experimental without having to have gained any rank with that particular engineer

To save loads of repeat visits to an engineer to apply experimental effects if I'm going to pin a blueprint for something I'm going to use a lot of on my first visit I will engineer one item of the common effect to level 5 to fully unlock the tree, I then buy a stock of the particular item and just do one engineering role on them and apply the experimental effects I want.

I then pin the blueprint and know wherever I am I can get the needed item for a new build with the wanted experimental pre-applied and use the pinned blueprint to get them levelled up remotely with the experimental already done. I then only have to visit the Engineer to re-stock or if I want a different upgrade or experimental. :)
