How to use D-Scanner

Regarding D-Scanner; Has anyone else come across the number of objects discovered differing from the number of objects shown in System View?

I had D-Scanner detect 16 objects but in System View it shows 2 stars with 5 planets orbiting the primary star.

As @Northpin says - some of the bodies have not been "discovered" by someone who has sold that data to cartographics. In the bubble, people are used to seeing that all the bodies are displayed on the system map, when you move out a bit only some bodies will show up, further out nothing except the stars shows until you "discover" them with the FSS.

Asteroid fields also account for the discrepancy.

They are counted as signals not bodies aren't they?
I think that they are all under the title of signals. Not sure, have not played in months.

If all of the bodies in an asteroid belt were counted and then added to the bodies, in the system; that would be insane. :D

Yes:

EDIT: this screencap snippet doesn't alone prove it, but it is a previously undiscovered system, with no transient signals. Only star(s), planets, moons and belt clusters.
