How to use the Career scenario maps in Sandbox mode

I've talked to some people who weren't aware of this, and realized it might also be unknown to many people. I thought I should make a thread!

@Cocolori reminded me this might only be an option if you play the career mode and get at least one star. But it's totally worth it.

First you click sandbox like you normally would:

Then click New Sandbox Zoo, of course:

Then click this tab for the scenario zoo maps:

They will still be played as sandbox mode, you just get to use the maps! I've had so much fun using the maps in this way. You can do this with challenge mode as well. I don't think you can do this in franchise though. Ideally we could get a map creator feature at some point.

Excellent contribution, and indeed, a little bit hidden!

You have to, however, finish the career maps for you to play them in sandbox mode.

Not available in Franchise though.

EDITED comment: my previous comment was about suggesting the thread title.

I have been playing this game since the Beta came out, and up until this point never even knew this, thanks to Jeminyne I know have a lot more choices of maps, something that is definitely very helpful if your mode of playing is sandbox. THANK YOU

Surely the title should be more specific, something like "how to play Planet Zoo scenario/challenge maps in Sandbox mode".

Your current title is more click-bait.

Going to agree with you on that one. Wasn't this a feature straight from the start?

Btw, a bit pointing out the obvious on this one.
This one is really hard to miss

It really was my fault, I had been playing the game for over a year and had no idea it existed 😁 I only play sandbox, and have no interest in the other forms of gameplay, so never really explored anything else, there was no need to. She pointed this out in a different thread to me, and it really help tremendously, had she never done that I would have never even known about it. It was suggested in that thread that she posted here to help anyone else that was clueless like me. She is just trying to help, it might be obvious to most players, but the few of us that have never played video games before, and just came here for the zoo, it does help tremendously.

Seriously 🙄

I wasn’t aware we were now being paid every time a user clicks on a thread. Clickbait? Come on now, lighten up. It’s really not a big deal. Some of the battles people in this site choose to pick, I swear....

The content/information given was helpful and new to me. Thank you, Jeminyne! :)
I have to admit, the title is indeed horrible click-baity and non-telling, though. The thread would deserve better than this! ;)

While certainly a neat trick, it is also a very hidden one. Almost an easter egg.
Which is a shame! I always wanted maps with a pre-defined terrain to work with and adopt my zoo to a given landscape. This seams to be such an interesting challenge!

Hand drawn maps are one option to achieve this. The revelation in this thread therefore helps.
An easy to access and obvious feature would help more ... with new maps being part of DLCs we buy (just like, for example, the new maps in ‘Cities Skylines’ DLCs.)
Having a map editor with larger brushes for easier large scale landscaping and a comfortable “plant brush” (auto rotate of plants and possibly a pre-selection of plants to paint) would help content creators to create new maps.

The ultimate addition would be a procedurally generated landscape, though!
I requested this in another thread already and still would love to see this implemented.
FDev are master of procedurally generated terrain. Just look at ‘Elite Dangerous’.
Just imagine a map creation screen in ‘Planet Zoo’ where we can influence hill density and heights, their steepness, the appearance of rifts, percentage of water bodies, tree coverage and so on.
Depending on how taxing the following calculations are, we could watch the effects in real time or would have to wait a bit for the result.
And then create our new zoos in this always new maps.

Random maps are such a huge long-term incentive and addition to the re-playability of games! Think ‘Civilization’!
And while ‘Planet Zoo’ doesn’t have the exploration aspect Civ provides, adapting to different terrain features would still be fun, inspire new ideas for awesome habitats / guest installations and help to make each zoo unique and rememberable.

I click edit thread but nothing happens... I can't find a way to change the title :-/

Another interesting feature, is the Timed Scenario in Estonia (which can be played in sandbox mode as well) - which has an unique set of terrain paints.

I really wish frontier would change this so that you can unlock them for Franchise also. I only play franchise and it sucks that I can't use these wonderful maps :(
Frontier, if any of you are reading this, please please! make these maps avalible to us in franchise too <3 (I woudn't mind if they cost more than the usual 100CC to unlock, as long as the option is there)

Well, I wouldn't call it a battle :p
Normally it's part of basic forum etiquette to avoid such titles.
Not a big deal, but it's fair to criticize such titles. (which happens almost every time on other forums as well)

I think more people would agree if other examples would be used on this forum:
"Can't believe this animal is available in PZ" - person just bought a DLC with that animal

I wasn’t aware we were now being paid every time a user clicks on a thread. Clickbait?
You do know what clickbait is? Most times not related to money.

If you ever need a thread title change we would have to do that for you. The fastest way is to hit the "Report" button with the request and new title and one of us can change it for you.
