How to use wake scanner in SC??

I have tried again and again to use wake scanner on high energy wake clouds in supercruise, nothing happens? How on earth do I scan a wake cloud in supercruise?

You can not scan wake clouds in SC as far as I'm concerned. If your target drops out of SC, you can target the LOW energy cloud, drop out of SC there and thus follow it into normal space where you can for example attack it. HIGH energy clouds, which appear when a ship uses its FSD to jump to another system do not appear in SC as of yet. At least I haven't seen any so far.

There is no need to scan a Low Energy Wake. All you need to do is target it, slow down, and drop out of Super-Cruise just as you would at an Unidentified Signal Source, Nav Beacon, or any other location.

The Wake Scanner is really only useful for High Energy Wakes to determine which system they hyper-jumped to.

so... how do I follow a ship to another system if the player chooses to jump in SC?

I have the cloud selected in supercruise. It is not possible to drop out like a USS. I also tried that, and I recorded a video to show that I can't drop out near wake cloud in SC, and also can't target it in SC. It makes no sense.

bump, can someone explain in detail how the **** we can scan frame wake clouds in supercruise? Or as alternative how can we lock on to it to "safely drop out" near? I certainly can't make it happen and I REALLY have tried.

From my own experience and from what I have been told in these forums, you simply can't. If the target goes into hyperspace from supercruise, you simply can't follow it (unless you manage to guess where it jumped to) as the wake scanner doesn't work in supercruise and the high energy wake doesn't exist in normal space.
I don't know if that's by design or an oversight on the part of FD. I'll assume the latter, as it means there is a 100% reliable way of defeating a wake scanner, which doesnt sound like good game design.

You dont, whic makes it quite pointless at the moment since you spend 90% of the time in sc

you cant drop in high wake, as that is a system jump

You can only drop in low wake. Which is why a fws is pretty useless at the moment
