How will jump routes work in the final game?

Currently when I want to visit a certain system I have to jump trough multiple systems just to get there.

Why isn't it possible to instantly jump towards a system within your jump radius?
Is this because of it being beta or a intentional decisions?

How will it work when the full galaxy unlocks, where most of it hasn't even been explored and linked yet :S

If you can't jump directly to a system it's because it isn't in your jump radius. Or so I understand. I would like to have the ability to plot multiple jumps, or create a route that can be prompted on-screen and followed either manually or an autopilot if such an upgrade exists.

But it IS possible to jump instantly to a system within your jump radius. If you can't make a direct jump it's because it's to far away. When you get a better ship with a more powerful FSD (or remove mass from your ship, either cargo or equipment) you will expand that radius and might be able to jump to the star directly if it now is in range.

A bubble representing that jump range would probably help in making this clearer and I'm guessing they will simply use the bubble we now have to show our "play area" for this later when the entire galaxy opens up.

I believe on the galaxy map, the solid lines connecting systems represent that routes that you can complete in a jump, dotted lines mean it's out of your range and you'll have to jump to a closer system first.

The strane thing is i.e. you can't fly directly from Aulin to Eranian being told fuel is insufficient. But you can hop from Aulin to Ibootis to Eranian without intermediate docking to refuel in Ibootis / Chango dock...

Isn't it strange ?

Similar to missions where you are offered to transport goods far away, but have no means reaching that spot, as there is no (dotted) line in the Galaxy map to follow..

And in the mission text it states its easily reachable, which is wrong.

Not strange. You have enough fuel for multiple jumps. That is different to having a long enough single jump range. There is talk in the design about stringing multiple jumps together, I think it's a great system.

Edit - regarding the mission thing, mass (including cargo) affects jump range. In 1.03 the range in the mission is calculated including the mission cargo so it should be accurate when it wasn't before.

Not strange if "hyperspace physics" means longer jumps takes more fuel. Like the difference between sprinting between point A and B and talking a casual walk.

For an insight into the game rules that will be in the final game, have a look at the licensed books. They have been written with access to the 'bibles' of source material FDEV have prepared, and this content is very visible in the plots. In both books I've read, there are protagonists being pursued over multi-jump trips to a destination, and the drive cooldown/reorient to next hop destination serves as a way to increase dramatic tension as the quarry is tracked: will the pursuer arrive in time to scan their hyperspace cloud and figure out where they went, or take the wrong fork? Will they metaphorically be able to gallop unscathed through Indian country and head them off at the pass? Will the pursued stop to scoop fuel or chance one more jump and being able to get to the station running on fumes?
