How Would You Do DLC? (With Rules)

Australia
- Red Kangaroo.
- Emu.
- Koala.
- Tasmanian Devil.
- Frill-Necked Lizard (Exhibit).

That's my "base". In terms of scenery, I don't feel like a full building set is strictly necessary, in which case I'd also include the Goliath Stick Insect and Inland Taipan as exhibit animals. However, I would like to see scenery objects in an Aboriginal art style, and there is potential here for a new rock set (red desert rocks).

North America
- North American Cougar.
- Moose.
- Collared Peccary.
- American Alligator.
- Scarlet Kingsnake (Exhibit).

In this case I think a building set is possible (Wild West/Frontier theme) but we do already have the New World theme which supposedly covers North America, so who knows what they'd decide to do. Also, it's worth noting that I went with the North American Cougar rather than the more specific and endangered Florida Panther, because there is still some debate as to whether the Florida Panther is actually a subspecies separate from the NA Cougar, or whether it's just a subpopulation.

Europe
- Alpine Ibex.
- Iberian Lynx.
- Barbary Macaque.
- Red Deer.
- Scheltopuisk (Exhibit).

Again, the Classic Theme is already a "European" building set, but I think there's potential for another one. Some kind of German theme with wooden frame architecture and some Gothic architecture would be good. Otherwise I'd also include the Greek Tortoise and Leopard Snake as exhibit animals.

Asia
- Bornean Clouded Leopard.
- Malayan Sun Bear.
- Blackbuck.
- Northern White-Cheeked Gibbon.
- Asian Giant Mantid (Exhibit).

Both the Indian theme and East Asian theme are fairly broad. I'm not sure a full building set is needed here either, but if I were to include anything it would be scenery items pertaining to a Buddhist temple, but done generically enough that they might fit either in a Himalayan exhibit or a Southeast Asian one.

Africa
- Eastern Black Rhinoceros.
- Meerkat.
- Red River Hog.
- Hamadryas Baboon.
- Giant African Millipede (Exhibit).

Again, we already have an extremely well-covered and more importantly broad African theme (broad as in it pulls from all over the continent), so I don't see an expansion of the theme or a new theme as necessary. However if they were to include some items, I think pulling from the Tuareg and Berber peoples of the Sahara Desert would be the way to go. If not, I'd also include the Jackson's Chameleon and Black Mamba as exhibit animals.

--

That's it for continent-themed packs. I don't think they will revisit South America or divide things up any more specifically than this, as much as I think Africa and Asia especially could be chopped and changed. The next few are a little different, and probably wouldn't include much if anything in the way of building pieces and scenery. You'd be looking more at an influx of scenarios and campaigns, and probably enrichment items and foliage more than anything else. Additionally, due to the nature of it, very little in terms of exhibit animals.

Endangered Primates
- Diana Monkey.
- Red-Shanked Douc.
- Golden Lion Tamarin.
- Geoffroy's Spider Monkey.

Endangered Hoofstock
- Addax.
- Przewalski's Horse.
- Pere David's Deer.
- Sumatran Rhinoceros.

Endangered Carnivores
- Amur Leopard.
- Ethiopian Wolf.
- Owston's Palm Civet.
- Andean Mountain Cat.

--

And that is all I can currently decide on. I would like to also include a 'ground bird pack' of some kind, but it's difficult to decide what it would include.

A thought on the Iberian lynx as a European option which had been suggested by quite a few people. Although they are found in 4 European zoos they are limited to collections in their native range countries of Spain and Portugal. As there are currently none anywhere else I would hope for a Eurasian lynx instead which is much more common and widespread in captivity.

I thought carefully about including the proboscis monkey on my list for similar reasons. They have been held outside of SE Asia (not always successfully though) so whilst I did include them I could be convinced they aren’t a good choice.

Other suggestions like saiga, elephant seal, chiru, giant armadillo, hirola, saola, Sumatran rhino and Andean mountain cat are either found in very few zoos or not kept in captivity at all and personally I would hope if they do come they will be a long way down the line after more common and widespread species are added to the game.

Your comment made me think of an important aspect I hadn't considered when making my list: how can the game developers get a hold of an animal's sounds when there aren't any animals readily available in captivity? It would make adding them to the game next to impossible.

I guess they could find a recording or approximation for some of them but I would hope this is another reason to go against their inclusion in the game.

As I said very few zoos or not at all. Almaty Zoo in Kazakhstan actually has saiga and if they were in game I would use them but I’d rather something more widespread in captivity first, especially if we aren’t actually going to be getting that many species in the long run.

Yeah, i love Saigas too, but if planet zoo is going for realism,we propably gonna miss them for species more popular in zoos. Like, animal picking in past zoo games is kinda absurd.
Narwhal, great white shark, goblin shark and humpback in Zoo Tycoon and Wildlife Park? those guys can't survive more than few montsh in captivity.

There are no Himalayan brown bears in zoos, either. Frontier seems to be angling toward highly endangered niche species as well as common zoo animals. With that in mind I think the Iberian lynx is far more likely than the Eurasian, as the Eurasian lynx isn't in any current existential danger.

5. Caspian tiger

*Note: I am breaking the rule here by introducing 5 instead of 4 but I was thinking of introducing a pack that introduces recently extinct animals. Animals that have been killed off by human interference, so no saber tooth cats or dinosaurs. With talk of a potential de-extinction plan, we could use this to educate how genetics and selective breeding works, like the Quagga project, but also talk how we should care for these animals instead of struggling to re-introduce them.

Which reminds me, I need to check my lits and seeif my wishes are still the same as they were then....

haha, mine changed a little too, and I even edited my list a bit. Every time I get an alert about this thread, I can't help but stare at it again. Why is it so addicting?
