HUD FOR NAVIGATION

I hope this go in the good place. Sorry for my English.

Since I play Elite Dangerous (and I like it very very much) I’ve always found that we miss a HUD (Head Up Display) for navigation of some kind. I strongly think that this feature is lacking. Sure we have the weapon reticle, but nothing to aid ourselves when travelling in normal or supercruise.

In supercruise, there is some sort of lines at each side, going faster the more we accelerate, but it’s far from being precise. Of course, there is the option to have the mouse pointer, but it’s not really immersive, more like an fps dot. Everything is there, information in the holographic display to guide us, everything but a single navigation aid. That would help so much for landing, going through the station mail box, etc.

I’ve always liked this system in Frontier Elite 2 and Frontier First Encounter, where there was a steady directional pointer, always pointing forward, and a situational vector pointer pointing where the ship was travelling. So with this system, it was easy to understand where the ship was going… (False space dust cannot be really precise.) In fact, it’s the same system they use in modern jet fighter.

So, what do you think, dear forum members and FDev ? Why we don’t have this ?

Yeah I don't object to (say) a centre-line reticule and maybe a vector-line indicating "slip" - however I do think that it should be a switch-able option if provided as I for one wouldn't want it to be in-view all the time.

I think we could also incorporate a sort-of visual flight-path system for planetary approaches to settlements (then some people can say "In the pipe five-by-five"!) as many people seem to have trouble getting the approach right.

I think we need more telemetry in our HUD. It may not all be useful at all times, but it sure would be interesting. Take Forza, for example. As you're driving, you can switch between different sets of telemetry as you're driving that show G-Forces, tire pressure and heat, friction, etc. Something like that would be way cool in Elite. Besides, it would make everything look more spaceshipy.

Also, I would like to see exploration information in my HUD. When I scan a planet or star, I hate having to go into the system information page to see the info on the body I just scanned. Couldn't that info appear right in the HUB or maybe just in the left/right panels? Just a thought.
 
I'm OK with the mouse dot and reticle, but I wish there were some customization options available. Rather than a dot I'd prefer a cross-hair and I'd rather have a reticle like you get when you line up an escape vector.

There's no doubt, there's a lot of room for improvement on the HUD
