Newcomer / Intro HUD Movement

Hi

I am having some issues with the HUD/camera, and am wondering if I can disable this feature. When I accelerate the camera moves into the screen, but there are times when it zooms too far and and the edges of the HUD are lost outside the monitor. I am playing on a 23 inch monitor with 1920x1080 resolution.

Often in combat certain elements of the HUD are missing, which is something of an annoyance. Is there any way I can fix this, or even disable the HUD movement completely?

OK so I've tried this - it helps a bit but areas of my HUD are still obscured at times eg when I pitch and roll hard right I cannot see the power systems area fully - are most people playing this game on higher resolution monitors than me??

Go to C:\Users\***\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics
And open the Settings.xml file

You can tweak the FOV beyond the levels enabled in the game settings.

Thanks for asking this. I always thought that this effect was part of the game, adding some realism like you are getting pushed or pulled depending on acceleration/deceleration.

it is.

but so is adjusting your view so it's a tad wider, since in real life, you have more peripheral vision....

i'd hate it if there's a way to disable it completely as in pvp, i would feel a little... cheated.... kinda goes back to the days of old skool FPS/RTS.

but to be able to adjust it so i can see what my thruster level is when i'm pitching up? that's awesome.

I'd always wondered about this and just accepted it was part of the game (as the slider for FOV did nothing).

Thanks Chris (again) as I will be trying that tip with the XML next time I pop on. Hopefully it makes life a little easier.

Another solution, if you don't want to mess around with your FoV, is to use the key you have bound to "UI Focus". This pulls your view back a bit while it's held, making the entire HUD visible.

not easy when press and hold while you're dogfighting (intensed enough that it pulls you away enough to screw with your FOV).

Or ED tracker, which is what I use. Very cheap but very effective.

wAIT WUT?

for 45 pounds I can have a 3D tracker???? I'm looking at the pro-stuff. OMG that's cheap.

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE!?!

Now can they ship to Canada? lol

PS: Just to be clear to everyone else, this is a head tracker... not quite "VR"... so you don't get a mini screen on your eye to "immerse" you, so you still need to keep an eye on your monitor.
but if you have a large enough monitor and you're not doing too much head movement (just a nod here, or a little tilt there...), then it's great. Definitely resolves OP's issue above.

Not that I'd want to disable it, but it is disabled for VR as it made the VR uses feel rather ill so there is most likely a way to turn it off if you know how.

I'm sure they can.
I can vouch for it as a very good piece of kit. I have one fixed to the inside of a baseball cap as I don't use headphones, also with a tie clip mic on the peak for Voiceattack. Makes combat and general flying around so much better

Good point.

Yeah, will be super awkward to have VR *WITH* that delay effect LOL!

Can also vouch for it; works very well. Bit annoying having the USB cable, but the alternative would be a heavier unit with a battery and transmitter.

EDIT: PS: If someone -does- know how to turn off the HUD movements, _please_ share. There's quite a lot of us which find it annoying, it should be trivial to make it an option since its already disabled for VR users but the Devs seem to enjoy enforcing it on the rest of us (responses of "It's working as designed"; great).
