HUGE PLEASE: "1st Person Mode" to give us a complete Coaster Cam Experience

Hello, Frontier guys and girls! Long time no see! I missed you :D

Great job you've been doing so far! I'm an enthusiastic fan since RCT 1 game (thanks a lot!) and I'll surely buy Planet Coaster game as soon as it launches.

May I make a wish? Just one simple request, please??? The one which, I believe, was lacking to really make RCT3 the ULTIMATE and PERFECT game.

I've loved the Coaster Cam addition in RCT3, and I used a lot the "Jonny Watts" cheat code to see my park from a peep's eyes, but the game always lacked a real "1st person mode". If you don't remember, in RCT3, by renaming a peep like this I got a stationary cam over that peep's head and I could see everything right above his head, following - but not controlling - his steps. I always waited a long time so that peep luckly got into a rollercoaster queue... than I waited there... to finally ride with him.

Well, that cheat code worked akin to a Dungeon Keeper game power (remember?), where we could possess an imp an see through his eyes and control his movements. My wish in Coaster Planet is that: I'd like to have a mode where we could finally do that. To make things "simple" (great LOL here), it doesn't need to be "every clickable peep. I see we'll have an avatar: we could have a button in the interface we press to go INSIDE him (not "above his head" - I'm tired of hitting all the signs along the way lol) and really CONTROL HIS MOVEMENTS (this is the point), as if we were in a 1st person shooter (minus the gun, of course).

This way we could experience our parks, walking in it's paths, going through underwater tunnels and queueing for rides. We wouldn't need to wait in the line: we could just walk through peeps - no collisions with them - click on entrance stalls and the game would let us "go first" on the next train or cycle - this way we could choose a seat like front row (or any other) and, once we were seated, the game would allow other peeps to enter the ride - then... coaster cam! In this "1st person mode", everything would be experienced in "1st person view". If possible, we could need to fulfill food/water and bathroom needs, going into stalls and buying things (random cash in pockets maybe, options we could disable to have infinite cash).

Of course, we could always have the traditional coaster cam: by clicking somewhere on the ride interface, the cam would be on it. No need to walk around the park, find the ride, etc. Just click and watch.

In this "1st person mode", we would have no collisions to peeps (crowded parks wouldn't slow us down), but we would feel the effects of gravity: we would walk on pathways, go up and down stairs, into tunnels... we could even jump low fences to step on the grass or swim a lake (ok, jumping is just a vanity here and can be entirely disconsidered in case things get too cimplicated). The real things is: I want to visit my park (and other's)! I want to really explore it, feel what my peeps feel when they walk into that building I built or ride that rollercoaster I created.

Well... that "1st person" thing is surely a dream... but since you've gone so far as we can see in your trailers, screenshots and website, that would be awesome to have this additional feature.

Is it too hard?

Thanks a lot in advance!

In the current Alpha of Planet Coaster, it is possible to type "tegidcam" in the the search bar of the rides or coasters tab. This will bring the camera down to a guests eye level, you can then control the camera forward and back with the W and S keys, and use your mouse to look around your park. There are no crowd collisions to worry about either, and it's even possible to move the camera faster or slower using the Shift key.

Your request is there, and like most of Planet Coaster at present, its a work in progress... but it's certainly there [happy]

Cool, does this still work in A3 - I might have to give this a go, heard about it for A2 but never really played A2 that much (been waiting for the management side of things)

I generally go into fly mode (Press T) and use that mode as a 1st person fly around - to be honest I'm in this mode 99% of the time.

Thank you very much. Just a side note, though: I wouldn't like this to be a cheat. When I have a cheat code I need to keep to get a feature I like working, I save it on a TXT, prepare sort of a "how to" text and save it in a DVD (ok, now it's a portable HD). I mean, if it's not naturally in the game, I have to preserve it for posterity (and risk loosing it all if something goes wrong as time goes by). So... I'd really appreciate if this feature is integrated do game UI, making it simple to access it.

Again, I wouldn't like it to be just something to level the cam to guests eye level. If this is so, I could simply point upwards, fly away again and *puf!* there goes the simulation magic. I didn't play Alpha, but it seems, as you describe it, it is just a cam feature... just a way to bring it down quickly. In RCT3, we could do that just by flying downwards, stopping right next to the ground and "pretending" to be a guest. I would really like to "be" a guest, walking around the park (like 1st person games, with arrows to move and mouse to look around).

Thanks again! ;)

The Tegidcam code does indeed lock the camera at guest eye level, so its not possible to fly away... pressing the ESC key will bring the standard camera back. At present it is a cheat code, there has been no word if this will be an in-game feature. However, Frontier are completely aware that it is frequently requested.

Hi SmaugBR,

This is a very popular request to a have a feature allowing us to "visit a park as a guest".

For now, when you click on "Visit the park", in fact, you do not visit the park you just download it, and you need to write the cheatcode to "visit" it, whith this kind of "god mode camera".
And I think they have hidden it behind a "cheatcode" to make a first test of this feature. [yesnod][up]

Stuk71, thanks for showing the video. I was unsure of how that mentioned feature worked. The only thing missing was the ability to enter "Coaster Cam" when we crossed a ride entrance... but what we have so far is already great and does the job well. I insist, though: please, make it a button in the interface so we can easily access it ^_^

Angelis, thanks for all the info. I'm gonna check the links :)

You guys (Frontier and Community) rock. ;)

Wouldn't it be easier to spawn myself as a guest. A special character under full walking control if he's on a path and outside rides or queues? That way the other visitors can be guided by the AI as usual while the special would just stand around and wait for new goals. Maybe you could put waypoints into his pathfinding queue that have to be visited.

And that brings me to my main question: Can we get a 1st person HUD with display of the character info? I'd like to see what a person thinks, where he goes next and a display of his prime statistics. And all while I'm in 1st person.

And maybe those two ideas could be coupled: Selecting a person, then a waypoint to place it into his goal queue, forcing him to visit a target of my will, then going into 1st person while reading his info on the 1st person HUD.

(...)and wait for my commands. If I press "forward", he would walk forward, and so on. Simple like that. Don't even need a "jump" or crouch". Just like a "semi-first-person-shooter-without-a-gun" LOL. When entering a ride, we could just skip its queue and embark it!

All the rest, in my opinion, is a matter of polishing. We can use HUDs, see and manage stats, have money, etc, but all this is to increase fun. The essential part is just walking around in 1st person.

Thanks for summarizing and reinforcing my suggestion ;)

If the tegidcam could be connected to build functions via HUD (or simply allowing some game menus in 1st person), it would be ideal to design interior dark and tight places. Because in these places normal cam modes fail. But for building tunnelike structures in the dark we'd need additionally a builder's flycam with spotlights.

What about "being" a peep in Planet Coaster. Walking around, waiting in the queues, buying food and souvenirs. Or what about creating our own Avatar, which we can control, and which is a real peep in the game. What about adding a inventory where we can see our money, what we bought. Or maybe showing the hunger, where we can see that we have to eat, like in sims.

What be a nice idea.

That's it. Thanks for showing me I'm not the only crazy one around here ;) That's the idea I mentioned in my first post, but in a masterful short version ... and THAT would be wonderful. :D

I want higher FOV!

Please give us higher coaster cam FIELD OF VIEW!

The current coaster cam FOV is very small which makes it look like you are crashing into coaster supports and walls

Increasing the FOV would look much better!

Please!
