Huge Thanks to FDev - Trailblazers Has Reignited My Love for Elite!

I just wanted say a massive thank you to FDev for Trailblazers. It’s reignited my love for Elite Dangerous and I haven’t been this excited about the game since the original Kickstarter launch and the first few waves of updates!

Right now, I’m deep in the search for good systems to colonise, racing against (and alongside) my fellow commanders in a wonderful mix of competition and cooperation. My faction (Delta Squad) are all working towards the shared goal of expanding our faction, and I'm not exaggerating when I say the new mechanics have made Elite Dangerous more engaging than ever for me.

This update is absolutely fantastic FDev and I'm really looking forward to seeing how it shapes the galaxy going forward!

Just don't listen to the people trying to ruin it for you. There is a lot of them trying to destroy our fun.

Yeah, I think it's been a great addition! I don't believe the hauling is that out of line, I mean you are building an entire station. I do want to look for another system but is the claiming still paused?

I think it would be nice to pay a company to haul for you in addition to you hauling some of the materials.

I am personally not interested in colonizing systems, since I am not into hauling/managing stuff, but am VERY excited to see how the galaxy evolves.
Hopefully this will generate in the near future some interesting events (whether player-driven, guided by FDev, or implemented CG style).

Now, if the non-trailblazing players could get something to do in the meantime..? Could the Thargoids make a comeback to spice things up, maybe?
Maybe in some remote location that would be, for some reason, looking like a gold mine for colonization?

Conversely, some members are believed to go to great lengths to prevent their children from ever becoming involved, since the group's secrets are dangerous.

100% agree. I was out of Elite for a few years after being quite die hard about it for a long time. Went back in maybe 3-4 weeks back and lasted maybe 30 mins before I lost interest. Nothing was exciting me about it.

Then saw the advert for Trailblazers and I was like.....oh....that's a game changer. I would love that.

Sat down one night to play and i'm more addicted than i've ever been. I've got months of this game ahead of me. I'm making spreadsheets and reading Inara and i'm even posting in this forum. lol!

I don't mind the odd bugs. They'll get ironed out.

According to self-professed Dark Wheel expert Lyta Crane, a conspiracy theorist and 'people's journalist' who has painstakingly assembled an archive of relevant data, the original group was based in a disused starport orbiting the eighth moon of an unnamed gas giant.

Yes, the boundaries of innovation have been shattered. If endlessly trucking resources back and forth is what passes for player driven content now, I can only imagine what exciting new features await us next.

If you're part of a decent player faction or group, it only takes a few trips each to build a new facility. Admittedly, it's not great if you're flying on your own with no in-game friends, but teamwork makes a big difference in cutting down the grind. Plus, building up your own system economy and receiving a passive income are pretty interesting aspects - it’s more than just trucking back and forth.

The system is a good addition.
The amount of trucking is silly. I expect it to drop by 95% in the next 2 weeks.
Hauling 40 hours to get 132k weekly pay... Completley out of place in the balance world of the game

Okay, crazy thought here, what if it wasn't just trucking? If you are within the bubble or anywhere in range of other decently developed colonies you should be able to get support from them in various means.

Powerplay 2 could tie a whole bunch of activities into a system, they should absolutely be capable of tying different kinds of missions/activities into the development of a system.

Plenty of videogames have long term, or overarching objectives. Helldivers dont dive to liberate the same planet again, they do it because shooting bugs and bots is fun.

Hauling for hours on end is not fun for most of the playerbase, and trying to push it as the only way to engage with colonisation is only going to burn out / turn away a good chunk of the playerbase thats been clamoring for more content.

I'm also put off by all the busy work, but even though I'm not out there space trucking, Trailblazers makes the galaxy feel a little more alive and that's a good thing. Same goes for Power Play 2. Who knows, maybe the new feature in Phase 5 will be something I want to take part in.

Yup, same. If you told me I was going to enjoy colonisation when it was announced and during all the leadup FU's and stuff... I would've been highly skeptical.

As it stands... Colonisation is pretty much what I expected, and it's certainly got it's warts. But... it's also successfully usurped my attempts to play Factiorio SA, Subnautica and Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.... and that's kinda hard to ignore for me.

For me, it's the logistic challenge that's got me interested... hauling's not just "move lots of this one thing", and the volumes while large, are quite achievable for most things. I liked the Thargoid War... but what kept me from participating was the enormity of it. Trying to clear a system of Thargoid threat on my own would be an impossible task... but equally, if I helped where the group effort was being applied, it was easy to look at that and go "It's probably still going to succeed even if I don't contribute"

But with this... starting a system off is tangible, and it's ongoing development when not-timegated, presents a good opportunity to just "do it yourself", or work out ways to get others involved... heck... randoms could simply help for no reason other than "Why not?" and that's kinda cool to me.

I'm anticipating once I claim a couple more systems, I might just put down 20-odd construction projects across them, put up a post advertising them along with some rewards, and just do something else for a bit, see who bites, but it's no loss or wasted time if nobody comes to help... and that's what's good with this.

I hear ya, it needs way more love that it probably won't get, but still I believe that is a gross over-simplification of the concept. It has problems, but the fact that it is groundbreaking for Elite is still true, in my opinion.
Although i lament the amount of mechanics FD have introduced and left to rot... the fundamental mechanic of realtime asset addition and changes is a pretty big deal. It's still patchy in terms of updating the instance at time the event occurs... but we're a far cry from "everything needs to happen on Thargsday".

I'd like to add to the chorus of those impressed with and having fun with Colonization (I managed to claim a system before the freeze)

Thank you FDev!

And unexpectedly, after the effortless handling and nimble maneuverability of using the new ships, the stubborn lumbering unforgiving challenge of flying the Type-9 is a surprising breath of fresh air!

(Maybe fresh is the wrong metaphor for a ship as old as the T9, maybe it's... grain-filled wheat bread after eating too much smooth perfect white-bread-with-crusts-cut-off? :) )
