Newcomer / Intro Hum no keyboard and controller at the same time ?

Just bought the game, already mad so humm yeah...
Keyboard/mouse controls not working when a 360 controller plugged in... just ZSQD and mouse would have been a good idea... like any other game...
switched to US keyboard, reassigned everything but pressing buttons is useless what...

Plug in whichever controller(s) you wish to use then launch the game, select the Options choice from the menu and then choose controls this will lead you to several sections to go through where you can bind any input you have connected and working to one or more of the enormous number of game functions.
Saving this when complete will create a custom binds file which when you are happy with you should copy to a different folder so you have a backup the game won’t change. Renaming the file to something relevant is also good but you have to also put that name into the second line of the binds file replacing the name already there.

If you start the game without the expected controllers switched on and connected in the same locations the game won’t recognise them and will load a default binds file.

Well thanks for taking the time to answer man. I tried several contols preset but the keyboard and mouse aint doing nothing. I just would like to use controller for a spaceship and keyboard and mouse when on foot. Pretty much basic stuff like any other game. Steelseries keyboard and Zowie EC-3 mouse is pretty standard that should be recognized but nothing happens. I tried different contols preset, nothing move...

Did a test launching the game with no controller plugged in and keyboard/mouse worked like a charm... Hum
Does that mean you cannot use both ?

If you want a deeper dive into this specific rabbit hole, hop over to the PC subforum and read the pinned thread (right at the top). ED's controls setup is the most flexible, but also most complicated I've encountered so far.

Yeah, even after a lot messing with FSX bindings ED seems very complicated.
Some tip for newcomers: make choice for Your role in game first and in next step bind keys for suitable manner. Is impossible to bind all possible key combinations at once. It will be different set for explorer or warrior/fighter. On foot gameplay make things even harder. Setting comfortable set of bindings require some patience and experience.

A good way to adjust your basic control bindings is to carry out one of the training/tutorials from the menu, that way you will be put in the same situation each time making it easy to spot the improvements in your controls setup.
