Astronomy / Space “Humanity’s ultimate goal of a galactic empire” on arXiv

Not sure if it fits the Astronomy forum, but it’s not a common sight to see a serious space physics article which has the phrase “humanity’s ultimate goal of a galactic empire” in the abstract and mentions (even if passingly) “warp drives” in the conclusions section. Just had to share it

I was unaware that "humanity" had an "ultimate goal" of creating a "galactic empire". I don't ever recall voting on it.

Use of the word "empire" also implies some kind of centralized authority and command structure. Without FTL travel and FTL communications, a "Galactic Empire" is impossible; the extremities would be too remote to stay under the control of an "emperor" you had to wait 50,000 years to hear an answer from if you asked him a question. The colonies would go their own way, developing their own politics, society and even biology.

I recall reading a short sc-fi story about explorers on the far side of the galaxy making "first contact" with an alien race. Only it turned out that it wasn't aliens, they were just humans who had gone around the galaxy in the opposite direction.

Hey, humans just work like that.
When colonizing new areas, we always go through the Empire phase before things get sorted out

Humanitys Ultimate goal is to survive, most of what we do is just a product of that.
